For information the virus we got sent was some kind of Trojan but Norton Anti Virus has found and sorted it, as far as I can tell it is nothing more serious than that but be aware that if you get a file sent to you unexpectedly through MSN it could be one of these.
Roger the Dragon (Now virus free, hopefully!)

tryed to warn people but we had post locked

You didn't try to warn people about this one, NECPLUK, this is very different to that which you named in your post.
Chris
ok sorry marmalaid

No problem, chuck. Have a nice day! wink
We has this one (or one similar) a while back.. , all our security was up to date but it still got us. I used a removal tool from symantec and we've been fine ever since.

I cant beleive some folk seem to be taking piss.....
its a serious matter is viruses
what would you say if they had a STD???
(to be honest it isnt my PC so I dont really give a fook!!!!)
come on people have a heart!!!

Sorry ant, I accepted a file from Fabio and he accepted one from me, and we're both fucked! rolleyes
How were we supposed to know it was something nasty? redface
This was why I posted this message within seconds of receiving the infected file (yes i accepted too because it was from a friend who often sends me things confused ), in hope that you would read this before receiving any and therefore wouldnt accept the files, I hope it helped some of you. I couldnt type much info at the time, just rushed to get a brief description up, because my pc was slowing up and the screen flickered occasionally too, then it locked up messenger. My Norton Anti Virus picked it up thou. lol

Have you been clobbered Calista?
I see another member of the site has it and it's just tried to send itself to me.
:P to that.
Files called "Love_me" Yeah, right.
I only accept jpegs and mpegs thru MSN anything else gets declined unless I've spoken to the person first and I'm satisfied they are who they should be. evil
over-cautious easy. :uhoh:

No I saw the file but know it's unusual to a) receive anything from this person and b) there wasn't even a hi it's me so I declined and deleted it immediately.
Glad I did smile

I have MSN disabled for the lack of security it has.

There is absolutly no lack of security with it as far as I can tell, only people who accept exe files and then run them! its no different to any other "messenger" and ptp system.
On another note, it looks like the virus reached saturation point and has pulled down the messenger service, or MSN have shut it down while they work out if they can some how prevent it spreading.

Woohoo it works .... was just about to give up and go to bed ... but it works smile :) :bounce:
No Katie you just have to make sure that the person it's coming from, is actually trying to send you something. This one was just sending itself to contacts on peoples' lists.

Ive just received a load of invites to accept documents/files on my messenger. They didnt send them, and people now asking me what i was trying to send them, when i hadnt been sending anyone anything?
Be careful, probably a virus?

There's a good messenger client called Gaim ( ) that supports MSN, ICQ, AIM, and more all at the same time. Saves having multiple different messengers running, and it's less likely to be exploited by a virus.
Just go to the above site (or use google to find it), and download the Win32 version (basically for any version of Windows) to install it.

thats the link for the security update (if anyones interested) wink
This has just happened again, so bumping back up as a warning to everyone.
It came up with something like:-
OMG this is funny:
(then a weblink here).
Be Warned!

For those who are worried about this virus, and may not have virus protection, or up to date protection ( Naughty Naughty) then you could try the following online scanner which should at least identify if the vulnerablity has infected your computer.
I'm afraid i can't give any guarantees - but it's a first step i guess

kev
EDIT - I just noticed that this online scanner only works with Internet explorer currently - for those of you using firefox - not sure what to currently suggest other then downloading free antivirus software such as AVG or anti vir guard from
P.S - Mods - hope it's ok for me to post these links - i think it's in everyones best interests
