I've heard there are bits of demolished housing that out acts Tom Cruise.
Will know for sure tomorrow.

Just got in from seeing the film......and i will give Tom credit....he was pretty good and the film it self is very good....none of that bullshit speech about the 4th of July like in ID4...TOTALLY REALISTIC!
Ooooooh....i can't wait to go see it now biggrin
huh i thought cruise was very good in it!
Someone commented to me "It's just a disguised remake of Inependence Day". I had to explain that Independence day was just a disguised remake of WOTW. rolleyes

I take it you're not into movies then. Have you heard about the panic it caused when the book was broadcast at the same time as the news back in the 50s(?? not sure ), people turned on their sets expecting to hear the news and instead had someone telling them aliens were invading (as part of the story). Personally I ain't that bothered about the new one, Tom Cruise, yada yada. Still haven't seen Pitt/Jolie in Mr. & Mrs. Smith, nothing deep or moving from what I hear but a fun film, definitely up for that (and of course Angelina's gorgeous)
Caught the film earlier....excellent...special effects were brilll....highly recommended :P
We went to see it on Thursday !! Great film............... ab fab !!!!!

That sounds so true! lol
Can't wait to see the film at some point as the book, radio serial and original film are all classics. I hope the new one lives up to them.

Just been to see WOTW.
Spectacular.
And BTW...Cruise does well. The scenery DOESN'T out-act him (though Tim Robbins is effortlessly superior)

P.S. The trailer to Peter Jackson's KING KONG also looks fabulous.

Now I really can't wait to go!! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
Dino and Alex fancy going tonight?? biggrin
Thought it was a great film but would like to have seen more of the 'action' of the fight between the armed forces and the aliens. If it hadn't been for a couple of fighting scenes they could have renamed it "What the public was doing whilst the War of The Worlds was going on". Maybe that's how the book was written? ......... I dunno coz in my ignorance I'll have to admit that I've never read it. redface
A bit harsh perhaps coz it was a very good film ............. the "War" element just seemed to be missing for me though.
Steve
In the book it was seen through the eyes of just a regular guy set in the 19th century..now that would have made a good film!

Well I never !!!!!!!!
Have the book at home ! U have homework........................ lol
This film was the biggest pile of poo i've seen. If there wasn't such a hype over this i may have actually enjoyed it. But after reading the books, amazing, and seeing the original, been scared of street lamps ever since, this was just a big dissapointment. I dunno, maybe its because they've yanked a great british original, who knows this just blowed.

A bit harsh!!........and wasn't the original 50's movie also set in America.....only the book was set in Victorian England!
Gonna c it tomorrow nite, hope its is as good as you say......
it does look really good!!!
biggrin :D
On king kong has any one seen Peter Jackson, he had lost quite a bit of weight and looks completely different now!!!

The original was released in 1953 and was actually on TV yesterday afternoon - starring Gene Barry and Anne Robinson - it's a real classic of the genre and one of my earliest movie memories as it was shown on TV every so often when I was growing up. Keep meaning to get it on DVD.
Not seen Spielberg's version yet but will certainly do so ... just got round to seeing Batman Begins yesterday which I thoroughly enjoyed. Little surprised that they plan to remake the most recent movies rather than do something else though.

There was a short prog on it this afternoon and Spielberg says that this was intentional, he wanted to focus on the public reactions and Tom Cruise's family in particular rather than the military response, the military only being there if they happened to interact with the Cruise family.

the original was a BOOK
the follow up was the scariest thing ever to hit the media
a play of the book was released on u.s. radio early 1950's, might have been a hancock production?
it was so good most people listening to it believed there really was an alien invasion taking place
a minor panic ensued in u.s.

Well, obviously the real ORIGINAL was a book , which I read as a child along with a load of other stuff around the genre, but we were talking movies.
No idea about Hancock Production, but the radio show you refer to was narrated/starred Orson Wells and it did indeed create panic as people listening in didn't realise it was a fantasy. The film of the 1950's followed then sometime in the late 1970s came Jeff Wayne's musical version of War Of The World's featuring Richard Burton along with the likes of David Essex etc ...
