WARNING
Just a warning guys, got an email saying my ebay account may have been compromised and to login etc. This is scam.
Lots going around at the moment, saying Bidder has cancelled and to click on item. They all take you to an ebay login screen - this is not ebay.
To be safe never click on a URL from an email, always safer to login via IE in the normal way and take a look.
Was told about the scams via work.
Thought I would let you know as I know there are some ebayers out there.
Some nasty people out there - be alert

Also, along the same lines, there are loads of emails from banks going around saying things like 'your on-line details need to be changed - click this link to do it...' etc, etc.
These are ALL scams and should be reported to the bank concerned - usually american based although I have seen some for Halifax recently.
They will have a security link on their home page and an email address for reporting these emails (if that makes sense). DO NOT BE FOOLED - if you have an on-line acount with somebody, they will NEVER ask for your login details via email!!!
Yes I had one of these yesterday. It said peoples ebay accounts had been compromised and used for fraud and false bidding and that I should register again within 2 days or my account would be closed. I clicked the link and it looked like and ordinary ebay login screen. Then when it demanded I enter my bank account details alarm bells rang and I stepped back. I reported this email to ebay and they have responded by saying that it is a spoof. Thing is I'm told ebay are doing very little about stopping this fraud and it's being going on for a while. Or perhaps there is nothing they can do. Anyone got further information?

Unfortanately it is very easy to copy an ebay login screen and host on another computer. I would have thought that ebay could send an email out to it's customers instead of relying on threads like these in forums . . I suppose they are only there to make money !
The advise I had is never login/enter any details of any kind from a URL packaged in an email. That way you should be safe.
Hopefully we will save someonefrom doing this.
Take care,

Yeah, I got an email supposedly from eBay too about a week ago and reported it to eBay who confirmed it was fake.
Basically, it said that attempts had been made to make payments on my credit card via my eBay account which MY bank had reported to THEM ie. eBay ... the message went on to say I should click on the link and reverify my account details.
The URL looked genuine but I knew it was fake because I only use one credit card online, and that particular bank have always contacted me DIRECTLY if they think anything odd is going on. I mean, even IF they'd contacted eBay, there's no way they wouldn't contact me also ...
The other thing which is commonsense really is, banks and companies like eBay already KNOW your details so why would they have reason to ask you to tell THEM? It wouldn't happen and I'd always check anything like this - any company that lost your details and actually needed you to tell them what they should be, wouldn't get my business!
This is an increasingly common scam, which is called (rather horribly) 'phishing' - it works on the principle that if they send out a million of these mails as bait, at least one person will be fooled.
If you want to know more, I recommend you take the Phishing IQ test:
which shows you 10 mails, and you have to decide if they are legitimate or fake - the results may surprise you!
Got em all right :-)
Faking the visable URL text and the underline URL being summat different is easy...
The using of a hypen instead of a full stop were a little more difficult to see and i've been caught out by this before but realised once the web browser opened and the address was wrong.
One big problem is that if you use the web end to your account, MSN prefixes all the links with special code to track which sites you link to from your emails. If you use outlook express to access your account it doesnt change the links....
The preface link is the reason the web page come up saying "outside of " but as i say it also records the sites... thats why the advertising after a while seems to be stuff you are interested in, they dont read your emails, just track the links and create specific advertising.... Doesnt work on mine, cos dont accept advertising from porn sites, lolololol
We keep getting emails from all over africa asking us if we would allow our bank account to be used to "store" $250m and if we do we can keep 10%, oh if only it were for real!
Don't laugh, that's Nigeria's third-biggest industry or something (for real!).
