We hate hogmanay!

Both myself and Den are planning on staying in tonight for new year.
We HATE it!!!!
I can't remember ever having a good time on hogmanay, starting of with trying to arrange something to please everyone, to trying to organise how the hell to get there, paying a fortune in a taxi if you manage to get one, paying a fortune to get in somewhere, queing to get in, queueing to put your coat in, queueing for an over priced drink, not able to get a seat, over priced drink getting spilt over you...................etc etc!
For me it started of with the first new year all of my school friends were going to the edinburgh street party, but my parents still thought I was too young to go, but it was ok, because we could go with them to the 'happening' village party, where all the other kids not allowed to go would be!
Turned out my sister and I were the only 14 and 15 yr olds there, so the hostess said we could hand the champagne out at the bells, which turned into cleaning her kitchen, taking her bins out etc etc..... not happy chappys!
Every New Year since then has gone downhill, which is why we are being scrouges tonight!
So what about you folks, love it or loathe it? or couldn't care either way??

I've always enjoyed it.
My friends and I have a tradition. We arrange to have a buffet at one persons house and all go round for a few drinks and something to eat before we all get changed into our fancy dress outfits.
We then go to our local, where we get the upstairs room to ourselves and enjoy a few more drinks with some more people we've invited along as there's more room.
We then go round to a couple of other pubs, see the new year in then back to the house for the annual twister tournament lol

I have never yet spent a 'happy' New Year's eve. If I'm not working it then I get to the clocks at midnight and find everyone gets very maudlin, we always say the same thing ( 'let's hope this one is better than last year' and we'll say the same thing next year ) so as I'll be on my own tonight, I'll be in bed long before midnight and hopefully wake up some time in middle Feb rolleyes

We've seen the New Year in at home every year for 15 years because we can never get sitters rolleyes

Not keen myself- although I don't hate it.
Yes, everythings set to rip you off- although with the usual sitter problem we stay in too.
But for me, my Dad went into hospital on January 2nd and as I was reassured that it was just routine I didn't make the 6hr trip with 3 kids up there in the atrocious weather.
I wish I had- he never came out, so new years always brings that home.
Add to that the fact that Mr W is NOT a night owl, so I'll be sat on my own getting maudlin as per I expect.

New years/hogmanay... hmmm
never been really quite what to make of it.
seems like a good time to think of changes to make... the turning of the calendar does seem to hold certain importance... though Im not one for making Resolutions etc etc...
Id like to think .hope, is perahps a more appropraite word< that if things are to change, then they'll change for the better.
what Ill actually be up to?
well... not a lot... once or twice, a good few years ago, I attempted to enjoy the events etc in central london, this was a long time ago, and I was fresh to the Smoke...
Bloody nightmare of drunkeness, crowds, hooters, fighting and pick=pocketing!
then we left the church to join the festivities in the streets! >but seriously....<
I always run the risk of sounding a little maudlin in a thread like this... not my intention at alll...

I'm not too bothered about it anymore. When I was younger, a gang of us used to go down Swansea clubbing, stay in a B&B etc and that was a good laugh. Be fooked if I am paying to get into a pub just because of the date now mind!
I have been invited to a party tonight but have chucked a sickie redface

Not really in the party mood confused

Instead I have a special friend coming to visit and shall spend the evening/morning doing what I like doing best every other day of the year ;) :twisted:

I cant stand New Years - like Binxy in my youth it was an all day bender in town, go home about 6, get changed into fancy dress and then back out again :bounce: :bounce:
then I started working doors and it'd be the same thing every year, fights, tears, some twat puking on the dancefloor, 12 o'clock comes and there's beer everywhere while they're all singing with arms round each other, some pissed up tart drapes herself on you and tells you how wonderful you are blah blah blah & everyone wants to snog the bouncers.... by it goes all melancholy and the beer starts really kicking in, cue more fights and crying and the ineviable physical removal of someone rolleyes

The last New Years Eve i worked was just after the Tsunami, when images of the devestation where beamed into every pub in town as BigBen chimed - its not an atmosphere I partiularly want to experience again :sad:
And this year, as I've just drove through town, most pubs have signs up because they have a door charge tonight ranging from £2 per person to £10 :shock: and that's just to get in!! I'm bloody glad I'm not part of that & dont envy anybody on the doors tonight. I'll be at home, being very vanilla and boring with Jools, me bottle of Asti , & steak with black pepper sauce lol

well we are staying in tonight,got friends coming round....saving the money for Nottingham instead,thats bound to be more fun.....and it was such a rip off last year,order the same drinks all night but get charged different prices everytime.....then spend that time trying to explain you've been overcharged!!!

We've never been up for celebrating New Year, it's always too expensive to go out and the weather's never brilliant! Prefer to spend the even in together as a family, wait for Big Ben to chime and then off to bed!!!! Looks like I'm with the 92% who also dislike it!!!
Next year will be different though - we'll hopefully have emigrated to the Southern Hemisphere and will be celebrating New Year in truly antipodean style!!!! cool
