webcam not working!!! HELP!!!

Hi just wondering if anyone can help.....we have just bought a new webcam and can't seen to get it working in the chatroom we just can not get a picture it will not load!!!! We have tried all the turn it off and back on, make sure it's plugged in etc no luck!
We would really appreciate any other suggestions or help so any ideas please let us know.

this may sound really silly...
have you installed the correct drivers and programs for it?
If so have you got it working on msn and other programs?
Normally when turning your cam on it will ask if you want to allow the connection, if you click no it won't show the cam.
