after winning the european darts title on sunday Phil Taylor gave away his winning trophy.
Taylor was the first person to win this title and you would have thought he would want to keep the trophy but no.
He live in stage thanked everyone for coming, then said to the crowd that the two brothers in the crowd who had come everyday to see him play would get the trophy.
Taylor left the stage with cameras around him and presented the trophy to two disabled wheelchair bound brothers in the front row.
People were just stunned and the clapping went on for stood for photos with the brothers and signed autographs.
Its about time Phil Taylor became Sir Phil Taylor.
I dont know many other sports persons who would give away his winners trophy just like that.
It just shows maybe the best ever darts player but he is still a human being and grateful to those who come to watch him play.
As nice a gesture that is, it's not like he doesn't have a shed load of trophies already, this is just one less he has to make room for or dust to be honest.

would have been more thoughtful to give away his prize money to charity
Some people seem to turn positives into negatives. Maybe just maybe Phil Taylor gave his trophy away for genuine reasons, and I cannot see the reason he gave it away was because he already had loads.
He is a generous guy away from the " ockey " and maybe he takes great pleasure in giving to others?
I think the guy is brilliant and I know of his generous nature with regards to many charities he supports. He gives lots of money to charity and helps raise a lot more too.
Good on ya Phil.
I am almost sure phil has done something like this before....
I remember reading that he won a car for getting a 9 dart finish in holland..... and gave it away to someone in a good cause.... I'll see if i can find the piece....
IN EDIT: I knew he had....
i can tell you that someone close to Phil puts trophys and signed shirts on ebay with all the money going to charity.
Its just that he had noticed them disabled lads watching him practice and turning up at events while he was in he just waited to say thanks for the support and the effort they had made to see him.
Phil Taylor - A thoroughly good bloke - and thats not IMHO thats ipso facto! Nuff said, bollox to those who say otherwise
Seems to be a nice sincere gesture
it is mentioned in the report on the final here:
as a person from Phil's home town I agree with the fact that he should have give the prize money to charity. In fact the prize money would have been best given to the Elizabeth Trust which is a local charity for battered wives. This would have been a most poignant gesture by Phil if he had been brave enough to do it
Dont you think he gives enough of his money away already?
Whilst the above charity may well be a good cause, he already gives very generously to charities that he supports. Or would some like him to give all his money away?
