Right here goes ... my tale, let's see if anyone can top it.
A certain well known social networking site sends me confirmation of suspected activity and suggests i change my password and any other one with the same password ... you guessed it i have quite a few including my email and this account.
Mad panic sets in so log in to all and try and change my passwords, i can log in as had recognition on. When i try to alter i can't ... strange i think! Surely the hacker can't alter the recognition on my computer ... but there are some clever buggers out there (not me as this tale proves) so thought they had managed
You wont believe how hard it is to try to cancel accounts or alter passwords if you dont have it in the first place.
After around 3 hrs of pissing around i try one last time and type the password in to my email and bingo .... im in !!
I'd only been typing in my work email password ... the moral of the story, don't be a wally and make sure you don't use the same secure password on vanilla sites !!
Over to you, surely i'm not the biggest Wally on here ?
Glad you got it sorted!
I recently lost an active, though relatively unimportant, aol e-mail account which I'd had for years......aol froze the account because of suspicious goings on. The intimations were that it was being used for spamming, but I wasn't given any clear information. I had to recall anything which I used the address for and log in to these sites and update details and change passwords and security info too....pain in the ass. The thing is I'd never ever changed the password on the account and it wasn't very secure, but I didn't consider it important...just goes to show tho'.
Glad you got your's sorted out....but always treat with suspicion any communication which refers to your passwords or other security information, and NEVER CHANGE SECURITY INFORMATION VIA A LINK...always close the communication and go to the site in question directly from your home page.

Do you use the ironing board as as method of communication or an Apple?
A couple of things I heard about is to have the same basic password, this contains a number of letters and numbers. For instance...
Billybob1891...(best not to use your date of birth as the number; it's relatively easy to work out)but then if you use the shift key you can put the same numbers at the front...
!*(!Billybob1891...also notice there is a capital letter too; some site insist on at least one...
Now what you can do is use something in the url of the site you are on, so in this case the 1st, 2nd and last letters of swingingheaven are swn, so...
swn!*(!Billybob1891
So if you use the same combination of letters from each site (i.e. 1st 2nd and last)then most of the time the password is different from site to site...but you should be able to remember it.
Well that's what I heard...of course I don't do any of that stuff...or do I? innocent
Oi suede where are the penis enlargement kit and the super strength viagra I ordered? (for a friend)
