Dire Straights

Hey Alex,
Mark Knopfler will be playing at the M.E.N. Arena on the Thursday 26 May 2005.
He is quoted as saying he will be playing many of the classic Dire Straits favourites.
Want to team up and go and see one of the greatest guitar players of all time, tickets are on sale from 9am Friday 8 October.

lol
Has to be the Beatles. Though I'll be the first to admit that it would be kinda hard to manage it!
Also, having seen the ABBA thing on tv a while ago it'd be cool to see them perform again.
Of course, the problem with re-forming is that if any band does the 'old stuff' it's not going to be as good. And if they do new stuff, it's not going to be the same as the old stuff.
So, on the whole, I think it's probably best that they stay perfect in our memories.

i think that this has been a brilliant thread....
you can't really disagree with the smiths, the clash, and the jam.... biggrin :D :D
can i add the undertones to that lot as well......
and most of the old manchester bands.. it was brilliant when the mondays got back together... i would seel my soul for the stone rose to do just one more show....
actually one of the best concerts i ever went to was the first madstock when madness got back together, mental...

I'm totally deprived and have NEVER seen a band live
would have loved to have seen Dire Straights, Pink Floyd, Level 42 and many more of the bands already mentioned

Are Simple Minds still together?!

They are reforming for 1 night only on 11th Nov, to play at the "Produced by Trevor Horn" concert, at Wembley Arena, all profits to the Princes Trust . Also on the bill are ABC, Art of Noise, Belle and Sebastian, Lisa Stansfield, Pet Shop Boys, Propaganda, Seal, Simple Minds and Yes, as well as Frankie Goes To Hollywood (with lead vocals from a special guest performer).
Given that my answer to this thread would have included at least 3 of the above, I think you might be able to work out where I'll be on the 11th Nov!

bunny? never ever ever? god bunny you don't know you're born! there's not much better, apart from the obvious, than seeing a good band live!
sean, i saw the mondays 3 times, and just couldn't bring meself to see them on the reunion tour. sean ryder was a shambles on the black grape tour, and he's only got worse since! :lol2: the mondays were appalling every time i saw 'em, but bloody good all the same! biggrin
probably the best gig i ever went to was Primal Scream, with the Orb as support. they we're both awesome. and i was slightly out of it and danced me bollox off all night! but the best band live has to have been the verve. about 50 people there and they just blew the place apart.

bloody hell mr discreet now you tell us! propaganda were great, and i loved abc. and yep big FGTH fan too. ah them were the days. 14 years old in an all boys catholic school thinking relax was just the filthiest thing on the planet! and i remember trevor horn when he was in the buggles before he became the huge pop impressario. he even played with yes for a bit but we'll forgive him that eh? lol

I would like to see Free reform. Unfortunately, they could not regroup in their original formation, as the guitarist Paul Kossoff sadly passed away some years ago.
I would also like to see Peter Green rejoin Fleetwood Mac - "Man Of The World" is one of my all time favourite songs.

confused:can also remember Chesneys one hit
xx

Was that Chesney Hawkes???
Son of Chip Hawkes of the Tremeloes fame
Still performing. Still crap :?
Ditto Rick Astley
Although at least people still pay to see RA, Chesney was 'the act' at a pub in Nottingham a few months back *points and laughs*

Still time to get tickets (aparrently the gig isn't selling well), and the reformed Buggles are on the bill too!
I'd really like to see Tom Lehrer perform, but I'm 20 some years to late sad
The Masochism Tango
I ache for the touch of your lips, dear,
But much more for the touch of your whips, dear.
You can raise welts
Like nobody else,
As we dance to the Masochism Tango.
Let our love be a flame, not an ember,
Say it's me that you want to dismember.
Blacken my eye,
Set fire to my tie,
As we dance to the Masochism Tango.
At your command
Before you here I stand,
My heart is in my hand...
Yeech!
It's here that I must be.
My heart entreats,
Just hear those savage beats,
And go put on your cleats
And come and trample me.
Your heart is hard as stone or mahogany,
That's why I'm in such exquisite agony.
My soul is on fire,
It's aflame with desire,
Which is why I perspire when we tango.
You caught my nose
In your left castanet, love,
I can feel the pain yet, love,
Ev'ry time I hear drums.
And I envy the rose
That you held in your teeth, love,
With the thorns underneath, love,
Sticking into your gums.
Your eyes cast a spell that bewitches.
The last time I needed twenty stitches
To sew up the gash
That you made with your lash,
As we danced to the Masochism Tango.
Bash in my brain,
And make me scream with pain,
Then kick me once again,
And say we'll never part.
I know too well
I'm underneath your spell,
So, darling, if you smell
Something burning, it's my heart...
'Scuse me!
Take your cigarette from its holder,
And burn your initials in my shoulder.
Fracture my spine,
And swear that you're mine,
As we dance to the Masochism Tango.
stone roses, smiths, joy division, james, david bowie and the spiders from mars, the clash, sex pistols, nevarna, the pogues, and many many more pop pickers,,not half mate,,,lets rock!
"Well the ballrooms and smelly bordellos
And dressing rooms filled with parasites.
On stage the band has got problems,
They're a bag of nerves on first nights.
He ain't tied down to no home town,
Yeah, and he thought he was wreckless.
You think he's bad, he thinks you're mad,
Yeah, and the guitar player gets restless.
And his coat is torn and frayed,
It's seen much better days.
Just as long as the guitar plays
Let it steal your heart away,
Let it steal your heart away.
Joe's got a cough, sounds kind a rough,
Yeah, and the codeine to fix it.
Doctor prescribes, drug store supplies,
Who's gonna help him to kick it
Well his coat is torn and frayed,
It`s seen much better days.
Just as long as the guitar plays
Let it steal your heart away,
Let it steal your heart away."
