As my last post crashed and burned (thanks for the 3 – YES 3 replies search for “BLUE LAGOON” if you don’t believe me) It got me thinking, I have sat and watched for ages now but still can’t work it out…..
What constitutes a good post? One that gets lots of interest and fresh posts, Is it:
Humour
Sex (well this is swinging heaven)
Sarcasm
A great title

Hijack potential
I have seen some great posts lately, loved the one about “whats on your desk” and there have been so many that make me laugh out loud, and some sad ones that really do bring a lump to my throat..
I know that I am probably opening myself up for a barrage of abuse, but go for it, one of the posts says about a baptism of fire, even if I’m slated totally, abused (oh please) and generally made fun of (I’m welsh if that’s any help) I don’t care, I just want more posts that 3 !!!!
What really makes the café tick
Please !! LOL
Threads that inspire people to post??...good topic...
Would have to give that some thought
What a bloody good post ... hehehe
Not sure what the answer to your problem is though

confused :? :? :? :?

I dont know what the answer is either.. but hopefully this should now push you past 3 replies lol
Don't suppose this place is any different to most other places, so it's people you know best who get listened to most. So if you're new, don't be surprised if you don't attract so much attention, whereas once you've psted some contributions to other peoples threads and your name gets known, you'll get more.
But yeah, in an ideal world, something topical, of mutual interest, attracting a diversity of views, and also something well written will usually do the trick.
'Lo again welshbicouple,
I ain't gonna piss take cos you are Welsh hun ;)
RE a good post -I think you may have hit a nail on the head referring to the 'what's on your desk' post. Lots of people have a desk/mobile/keyring etc so its easy for lots of memebers to be able to reply biggrin
A catchy title is the best start obviously ;)
Humour-well nuff said lol-most people have 'stuff' to deal with in RL so to come on here is a way of relaxing for a lot of members and I for one find a good giggle a great way to wind down.
Sarcasm-well there's a place for it (but that's a 10 page thread)
As for sex-well there's always room for sex lol ;)
Scuse the rambling but it's my unwinding time ;)
Minx x x

Well........I've always found that a good post is either :_
creative
informative
exciting
teasing
suggestive
but above all, if all else fails..........
roll out the "Are bouncing booby avatars dangerous ? thread" rotflmao
Hmmmm, the great unfathomable question...
have sat here a while thinking about it...
and to me it seems that if you are honest, or ask something original, or take an old topic and turn it around a bit, then it seems to be that bit better recieved...
It also helps if it looks like you have given it some thought yourself.
But i guess mainly it's this.....

fairly made my day has that!
As the person who has make more posts than anyone else here  I felt I should reply to this. Yeah, a lot of my posts have been short and to do with moderation, but even if I took those out of the equation I think everyone would agree that I spout total gob-shite for a lot of the time. However, I don't start many threads in the cafe. Usually I can't think of an interesting topic -- one that I feel that others would be interested in. I think the key to posting in the cafe is choosing a topic that covers something obviously of interest, something that people can reply to without much thought  , or something that will spark a debate.
Most of the threads that I've started in the cafe have been about really trivial things... prime example, the one I did last night about Batman Cookies --- totally trivial but mildly amusing.... people can respond with funny stuff, can take the piss out of my cooking skills (oooh yeah, threads that people can take the piss out of are always good lol wink ), or where they can offer suggestions or try to help me  .
If you search through the forum history you'll see that the longest threads are probably the ones that are the most trivial -- the what's on your PC table one is still running after ages, music and film ones are done time and time again but tend to get good responses --- basically, things at everyone can talk about without really having to think. Having said that, other long threads have included really serious topics -- depression and domestic violence are two that I can think ran for pages and which provoked some very long and thoughtful posts.....
However, I think if you TRY to make a thread that will run for ages you might well fail...... therein lies the great mystery of forum life........ Better just to go with what interests you and see others make of it than never posting at all ----- publish or be damned!

Ah, but postie, I did say posting EARLY, and I am not sure that this is early, after all it is into double figures, and I don't think one is going to get into triple figures some how LOL.
Thanks to BlueXXX also for some great pointers, and yes, I really thought the batman cookies was funny - especially as you took the time to take a photo.
Only joking Postie, my post feels complete now you have added your 2p worth !!
Sorry, i was a bit slack off the mark on getting here early... will try harder next thread!
And i think bluexxx said perfectly how it works... as always.
i think being an arguementative, whinging git is a great way to get a lot of response on any website thats got a forum. biggrin not the best way to make freinds tho. maybe you are being too nice. lol
Just to change the angle a bit, I think the WORST threads are those which come accross as having been started by someone who was just desperate to start a thread - any old thread.
I can almost picture them sat there thinking "I must start a thread, but I can't think of anything."
At this point they start twiddling with a bit of thread hanging from their sock. After a few minutes they look down and find they've mad a hole in their sock.
Ten minutes later a new topic appears in the Cafe:
How many holes do you have in your socks?
OR
Don't you just hate it when THAT happens?

Please resist the temptation to start a thread about holes in socks just to wind me up!! rolleyes    wink
