I was just reading HJ47's post about what his Mother called her network name on her computer.... kiss
When I set my new comp up it asked for a name and I gave it one without even thinking about it....

Its very true, it keeps me in touch with the world even if I ddnt want to actually take part in it at times..

My Main computer is called "Malvern" and my spare is called "Long Mynd" -- the wireless server is "Wrekin" -- I guess I just like hilly places !!!

first came across this word via a Terry Pratchett set of novels but when we looked the word up it seemed appropriate for a world within our world within a world

But the pc itself thinks it's called "fix it" "fix it" as this is what it hears after ive broken it again banghead & before the gentle hands of Stileto bring it back to life :thumbup:

well the current is a borrowed laptop which i just call crap at them moment as it just gets the blue screen of death and i have to actually remove the battery mad
my old was just HOME but when i get new one will have to think up a witty name now :twisted:

my pc at home is called Mike....
as we have a network of me and bro's pc its best way to distingish....
if i was being geeky, i would have NX-74205 - the uss defiant
small and well packaged, just like me smile

I call my laptop "mine" and Laird's laptop "yours" dunno :shock:
I also have pet names for it when its not behaving but I won't repeat them as I am a lady! :smug:

well, my current machine is WinXP, so it has any number of expletives it goes by the name of. mad course, being a wintel, it has no soul, so has never quite grown into a name of it's own. confused
my amiga OTOH, was called Bess. ((( amiga = girlfriend, so i thought she needed a name. i was never that serious about her. it was just a casual fling after i ditched the ST. ;) )))
my Linux partition goes about under the name Dark Star. i.e. a black hole devoid of information that i will never be clever enough to understand! lol

Mine are called "lapdog" (from Bubbles in Ab Fab) and obviously the other one had to be called "deskdog" :-)
In edit: I use Network Stumbler (to diagnose gaps in my wireless network ;-) ) which shows up the names of any wireless networks in the local area. It's amazing how many have popped up lately with names starting with "SKY".
