To respect someone to me is a hard question to really answer in the written form.
I see respect to have many different meanings and different levels.
People all see respect to mean different things.
Respect could mean to hold someone in a higher esteem than yourself, someone you would look at with admiration this could be for different reasons.
Respect could mean you value that person’s opinion but not see them in a higher esteem but on an equal level.
Respect could be a natural feeling towards people.
What does respect mean to you?
Willingness to show appreciation or consideration.
It means that Aretha Franklin will be getting royalties for a long time! :P
I treat people with the same respect I would myself like to be treat with.
If I don't receive respect, I'll not give it in return, end of.
A lot of thugs think that it means being scared of them. I might be scared but I wouldn't respect them at all because they are worthless lowlife scum.
Respect...
It's about knowing the difference between what's appropriate and what's not. Knowing when the time is right to have a joke and when it's time to take a moment and think about other people's feelings before you open your gob and let your belly rumble in an attempt at humour.
:undecided:
For me, to respect someone is to value their time, honour their rights and acknowledge their worth. It doesn't necessarily mean to hold them in high esteem or defer to their authority because those things are as often done out of fear or social conditioning as out of genuine respect. If I were to put it in a nutshell, I think it's accepting someone for who they are.
Respect to me
in a short statement
Respect means a lot and goes a long way
respect can and mean a willingness for attonement or appreciation of another ...you can respect a good song writer for producing a song once heard not forgotten or you can respect a person for openning a door for an old lady not a dolly bird, it comes in all shapes and forms but respect is within...... respect yourself then you can respect others they will in turn respect you in their own way.

I once held a door open for a "lady" only to be barked at "I hope you're not doing that because I'm a woman!".
I replied, "no ma'am, I'm doing it because I'm a Gentleman"
Something my grandad said to me years ago;
Every man deserves your respect, until he shows you he does'nt.
Okay... if you can't have any respect for yourselves... how about you try for the rest of us?
