I HATE FUCKIN' PAN_PIPES!!!!!!!!!!!!
Luv Alex Claire & Cameron xxx XXX
Had to pop back to say how queer that this must be about the 3rd time that someone has posted fav music & nobody has stated "this has been done before, please read previous posts" yet on previous occasions this was stated nearly straight away...i.e fav films etc...
Hope your all fine & dandy...
Jaine
Radiohead
Interpol
Mars Volta
Pixies
Joy division
etc etc etc
today I am mostly listening to
Muse, keane, White Stripes, Moby, Coldplay, Starsailor
then if i feel nostalgic
The Jam, The Bunneymen, Madness, Lennon, Squeeze (Difford and Tilbrook best songwriters ever)
This morning I discovered a Palace Brothers CD that I'd bought, didn't listen to at the time, and promptly forgot all about. So I know what I'm going to be listening to today... is it possible to die of a Will Oldham overdose?
Yes, I should be at work. I'm going, really I am.
What a lot of interesting music people are listening to.....across the whole range of classical, particulalry a lot of modern and 20th century classical music to 60's 70's rock and more modern styles but where's the jazz. Ok I've seen Glen Miller mentioned, Louis Armstrong and even Dizzy Gillespie..but where would we all be without Charlie Parker..possibly the greatest musician of the 20th century in any genre.
What about the heart breaking, gentle seductive rhythm and swing of the bossa novas of jobim, louis bonfa et al and the sensual renditions of these by Stan Getz. The great jazz orchestras of Count Basie (April in Paris) and Duke Ellington, singers such as Billie Holliday, Bessie Smith and the incomparable Ella Fitzgerald.
For the more modern generation....try Tommy Smith, Andy Sheppard (even set prose from The story of O to a jazz piece), David sanchez, Courtney Pine, David Sanborn, Jay Beckenstein.
Oops..you may have guessed I'm a sax player!!
Seriously, I think the choice of music represented by peoples taste here is fantastic..lets start up our own radio station with our own play lists...Radio 2 eat your heart out.
8) What about John Coltrane ? 8)
PS - I've seen: Ella Fitzgerald; Courtney Pine; Andy Sheppard; and Miles Davis live. Also Count Basie & Sarah Vaughn, and Joe Pass, and John Scofield ...
Ok, a question for you folks on this theme ?
Those of you that know my tastes know they are varied in the extreme but usually falling towards metallic - for example today has heard Napalm Death, Opeth, Iron Maiden at one end of the scale and Ennio Morricone, Bjork and Jeff Buckley at the other blaring out from here. I've also made my dislike of rap obvious to those who'll listen........
So, why are three of my fave non-metal albums this year Outkast (2nd disc is pure 70's and 80's prince), N.E.R.D. (urban indie-rock-rap-soul collective) and cLOUDDEAD (more psychosis than Tricky, deeper than Massive attack and madder than classic De La Soul)......?
Am I softening or is rap finally realising that it doesn't have to be all about the bling and DJ's any more ?
give me head banging music anyday------ac/dc, scorpions, aerosmith, also blues -eric clapton john lee hooker gary moore- and the diva of all divas tina turner!
I love all types of music....
n.e.r.d, outkast, Dizee Rascal, Prince...All types of dance music...Gabba, Hardcore, Old Skool, Garage....
Music can be better than sex at times......... wink

Looks to me like you aren't getting your sex in the right place hun... and I love music!!
I my opinion music tastes are'nt that important, but more the occasion.
If i'm shagging then you can't beat Massive Attack, virtually every one of there songs is perfect to get down and dirty to.
Then again most people are'nt that enthralled at my musical tastes,Radiohead,Coldplay,Underworld,Orbital,Nirvana,Stone Roses and James to ame but a few.
Massive Attack def lead the way on sexual music and i strongly recomend everyone to try it out with Unfinished Sympathy...........mmmmmmmmmmmm
Steve.
nice to see someone else mentioning Gary Moore he of skid row, thin lizzy fame and of course his solo rock then fabalous transformation to the blues the roots of all music .
not many artists can change genres and get away with it , he plays the blues on his les paul gibson so well he has to be the most under rated guitairist ever to grace a record . if you ever get a chance to see him live you gotta go and see him hes awesome, his angle on the blues is so good all the original blues legends wanted and have recorded with him so i say no more other than listen to gary moore smile
seem to remember he was an axe god....but one ugly dude!
Ever see the lead guitarist off of SAXON...now he could play!
I have also seen the guy from SLADE, who is playing culumber park theis year in nottinghamshires open gig, and boy they STILL have it BIGTIME even without noddy!
you correct there rocky hes not excatly brad pitt but the boy can play........... biggrin

I was giving this thread a wide berth because I felt I needed 2 pages to express myself. But HornyL has inspired me, so to speak. Blues - yes. Gary Moore hmmm. He is very impressive in a showy sort of way - very fast and fierce attack (I know not all but mostly)but the blues - he just doesn't have the subtlety of say Peter Green or even Chris Rea. What's more GM came back to the blues but then proceeded to dabble elsewhere soon after. I hope Chris Rea stays with the blues longer than GM did as I think he's adding to the blues stock as we speak.
Vote goes for all the classic 60's 70's blues rock bands Fleetwood Mac, Led Zep and Thin Lizzy but not when GM was playing - sorry. Please note this is just offered as a point of view - I'm not trying to run down anyone else's view or to start an argument.
hi tune we must have very very similar record collections i agree with you about thin lizzy they were at the best with scott gorham and brian robertson but ironically one of my fav thin lizzy tracks is waiting for an alibi with gary moore on guitair , peter green is the daddy , johnny winter the american albino is good too as is chris rea as for his blues stuff i cant recall any, hendrix playing red house say no more, rory gallacher, stevie ray vaughn, slash from g n r , brian may
the 60s blues bands like fleetwood mac ,cream, jimmi hendrix, yardbirds ect ect are still being played today by the up and coming artists which is good to see .
i have fully understood this as your point of view and i too do not wish to argue with you either .
i myself can also write loads of pages about this and have tried to keep it short n sweet...............
Wow. I could feel the hairs on my neck rising as I read your list. Spot on! I must get those old Johnny Winter albums out and give 'em a spin. Texas blues has a special place for me. SRV, KWS 8) 8) .
May your twelve bars always be blue! Respect.
*takes deep breath*
Dusty Springfield, Curtis Mayfield, Prince, Hendrix, Abba, David Sylvian, The Clash, The Stranglers, Siouxsie and the Banshees, John Coltrane, Tallis, Vaugh Williams, Beethoven, Giovanni Gabrieli, John Blow, Schubert, Suede, Velvet Underground, Bowie, Planxty, Throbbing Gristle, Kraftwerk, early Human League, Joy Division, Scott Walker, Echo and the Bunnymen...
And Frankie Goes To Hollywood's version of Born To Run beats the tits off Springsteen's original (scurries off to find secure hiding place)

Prince, David Sylvian, Siouxsie and the Banshees,Bowie, Kraftwerk, early Human League, Joy Division...

With you on those ALL the way - check out the new Prince album as, to these ears, it's a return to form with stuff sounding like many phases of his career - yep, even the guitar is back on a few !
Siouxsie, well, regular readers will know my view on her (:twistedsmile but you should go for the new Creatures CD for some rhytmic action.
Also, have to agree that Human League were very good but amazing before the two girls joined - "A crow and a baby" still a fave of mine to this day !
Carpi.....are you an old punk by any chance?
I love Siouxsie too. Goth women definitely do it for me!! i have been to the slimelight in london a few times, crikey moses, some real crackers in there! and the music is great too!

Seems we'll have stuff to natter about then !
Never really a punk as such but always on the alternative edge of things - goth, punk, extreme metal, industrial - anything from Neubaten to Bauhaus, Napalm Death to The Orb, Sioux to Nephilim....amongst many, MANY others of course !
Seems we'll have stuff to natter about then !

i love all types of music, the best songs are those that bring back memories.
today to get through the house work i blasted out soul to soul, i can remember buying a top with silver writing on it with 1990 on it cuse it was a big thing 2000 seemed so far away then.
sometime when in the car i actually wish my journey lasted a few moments more, or i drive slower if a good tune comes on the radio so i can hear it all.
