I read a thread on another forum, where a guy had had to buy himself nasal hair trimmers....and had decided this meant he was no longer young, hip and with it any more as a result.
Kind of got me to thinking that there are stuff that just screams OLD at ya, or you think to yourself...nope...I'm not having that...cos if i do then Im officially OLD.
For me it has to be fleecy/zippy up ankle bootees, tartan blankies...and beige macs and beige bri-nylon 'slacks' and plastic head scarves
oh and sandals and socks!
my son on the other hand says its those "big black plastic things mum...you know...the ones you used to play music on in the olden days...what are they called again...??"
"that would be records son!" confused hes 16 BTW
firstly may i say it is lovely to see you back regularly posting again you always do such good threads
we went to a gig last week to see The Alarm and whilst sat there looking at old men with pot bellies thinning hair and ill fitting tour shirts and women with sensible haircuts warm jackets and sensible tie up shoes
i turned to mr b and said "i do hope you realise i am never going to grow up i am never ever having a sensible haircut or colour" luckily he said good and he didn't intend to either
so i guess for me old is a sensible haircut and sensible shoes *shudders*
you can still find those old shops which sell all that gear. gowns, housecoats and 'ladies belts', they often look very similar wherever you go across the country.
When you call someone buzby for being on the phone all the time and they look at you and say
WHO ????
then you realise your getting old sad
Lol the alarm leeds uni 1983.
I dont consider myself old. I am alarmed by the increasing appearance of secondary hair as one ages.
at 25 the shoulder hairs were mildly irritating
at 35 the nasal hairs were an inconvenience
at 45 ear hairs just take the biscuit.
I fear for the future and suspect little tufts on the top of my nose will appear next.
I believe youth is a function of outlook. My father in law is 65 and has the outlook and dynamism of a 30 yr old.

been there done that...and the same for a jet setting cousin when I called her Judith Chalmers...... confused
and LOL @ sensible shoes...sturdy and functional!!!
and thank you for your kind words bouncy xx
Talking to the telly as though it can hear you..... screams old to me, i have to fight the urge to do it all the time.
as for the nasal hair trimmers i have been doing that since i was 27 so that doesnt count for me i guess x
At a car boot the other day when a mother (my age-ish!) and her daughter (late 20's) and asked how much something was. I said 30 bob. The mum just smiled and the daughter looked confused. 'Ask your mum, she knows!'

The mirror lol
Or is that just mid-life crises
Tony ;-)
When a fit student gets in the lift at work and I give her the up and down eye and she returns the look that screams "You filthy old git"
@Kaz I am the opposite. I got drunk and spewed cider everywhere when I was young and got a hangover every time I drank. Now I rarely get one and if I do its always from cider, still.
The fact that for the first time I am older than the current Doctor Who.
I was working with someone the other day who'd never heard of Adam and the Ants. When I asked when they were born it turned out it was after I started working. That made me feel old

Yes but 'old' like a fine wine as opposed to 'old' like an old boot, I'd say smile
Little story
A few years back I was working for a company, a new lad started, during a chat he said, how long have you worked here, I said, I started here in Easter 1981, he said, oh the year I was born...........
Suddenly I felt very old
I'll never grow old biggrin:twisted:
I remember once reading a remark from someone who said that you know you're old when you can no longer put your sock on while standing on the other leg....so I'm still okay then. lol
The fact I can't lay on my right side for any length of time or my shoulder hurts and continues to hurt for days.
the fact that my right knee makes crunching noises as I walk upstairs and I get grinding pains if I hurry up them.
The fact that my left hip is so stiff when I get up from sitting that I can't straighten my leg naturally as I walk.
It's age and wear and tear. I can feel the slow but unstoppable progression of osteo-arthritis every day. Not fun - but if I choose to let it ruin my life at this early stage I have only myself to blame. So I won't. biggrin
On a lighter note - BEIGE.
I have one pale brown top and I use it for gardening. If I ever buy any more, I will know I am old and will line up the sleeping tablets cos my life will be over. I plan to live a long time yet but I will NOT wear bloody BEIGE.
You see them clambering out of coaches at the motorway services - dozens of men and women, every one of them looking for the loo and wearing; beige comfy shoes (ooo, can't wear heels with my bunions), beige slacks (they're wash and wear you know), beige t-shirt/pale checked blouse (it goes with everything I have), beige cardi (ooo, but it has such a pretty stitch pattern on the hankie pocket), a beige showerproof jacket (it's a bit chilly today). Given that by then the hair and skin are all but beige too, if they stand still they blend into a single beige mass.
God save me from the early death that is - beige.
When you are at the Coventry Social, and the girl you are standing next to says
"oh, I love this song, it came out the year i was born".
It was C'mon Eileen by DMR.

For me no longer knowing who is in the charts,or who the cool bands are.
oh and hangovers, how come u dont get them when you are young?
Is that because you now stop drinking long enough for your body to notice?
OK I'm gone

Just wait till she starts pulling grey hairs out of yer ears Ben. Not that that's ever happened to me you understand, oh no . . . :uhoh:
What makes you feel old?
Turning 41, and realising that the reassuring '40 is the new 30' thing is just one year too old . . .
When the seminal albums of your youth aren't actually available on torre . . . I mean . . . ITunes . . . .
When a passing comment on Facebook about hanging baskets outside your 'ouse can turn into a hundred post conversation, and you find yerself listening in, and thinking, 'you know what? I'm liking that idea . . . .'
sad
