Hi peeps
Needing to upgrade our wireless router, anyone out there recommend a router that has 4 Lans sockets.
Take it we need to go for the N type.
Is the dual band anygood with 5hz radio band + band?
We don't do any games via internet or x-box at the moment in time maybe.
Seem the Linskey is good.
Any info would be greatfull.

With the above post.
We are using Virgin media cable 10mbs which later we may go for the 50mbs as an upgrade.
Running 3 pc on Lans cable to the back of the router & also 3 laptops 2 support G and the other laptop supports N also.

What are the main criterai you are looking for?
Speed, range and connections are all options where the choice varies wildly.
The fact that you have stated you need four ethernet connections does give a limitation in the adsl modem you choose, however I got round this by running two "boxes". A standard adsl modem and then using a cross over (not straight through) cat 5 cable into a router extension box which had 6 ethernet ports. Taking this option opens up the available market greatly.
Range. - Well that depends if you have laaaaaaaaand lol New three storey houses and old solid stone walled houses both have range problems depending on where you locate your router compared to the position of the wireless devices.
Speed. - Isn't really an issue. The main computer shops only ever seem to sell the latest, fastest models, which you can guarantee will be superceded very soon. So providing what you buy is backwards compatible then older wifi cards will work with it, it won't be a problem.
I've stuck with belkin in the past and that has always given me years of reliable service and are very easy to set up.
Can highly recommend the Linksys WRT160N and very reasonably priced too wink
Given your criteria I'd recommend this one -

Ticks that box and it's Gigabit LAN as well, so faster speeds between PCs on the wired network. Obviously you will need Gigabit cards on your PCs to make use of that.
Range is excellent and signal is robust. It's not the cheapest one out there, but it's a good performer and a damn site better looking if it's sat somewhere where you're looking at it every day. Setup is an absolute dawdle and as you are with Virgin (one of the ISPs that the router is set to automatically set up) you'll be online in literally five (max 10) minutes.

Worth going for yes, given that one of your laptops has N on it and the G ones won't bring down the speed.

The theory behind that is that it reduces the chances of interference from the plethora of other equipment like cordless phones using the same frequency and other wireless networks. That router is only and I've never seen any issues with it and that's with a good number of other networks around me that I see appear on my laptop.
We don't do any games via internet or x-box at the moment in time maybe.
If you do it will work perfectly well with that. With the latest wireless gaming adapter for the Xbox being N type you'll get a much quicker connection - particularly useful for streaming video etc.

As long as he doesn't use any laptop/equipment that has an card in it. It will still work on the router but will bring down the speed of any g/n devices also connected. I know he hasn't mentioned any b equipment but it was just something worth noting. :-)
It depends on weather your on broadband or dial up.................:karaoke:
havent you got the dlink dir615 model that virgin supplies as that ones quite good to use compared to the old netgear one that allways crashed out if your a heavy user
as been said before belkin is a good make dosnt suffer from bad drop outs but can run at high speed
as said before you get what your money pays for or depending what you do on your pc as im a heavy user on internet
the link below are the best with low drop outs when useing them

a bit of info to help you decide which 1 too get
Just a big thank you to all that helping us choose a new router will keep you updated.

Ok the dual band is no good to you unless you want to equip your wireless pc's or laptops with type C adapters.
I personally would go for the Draytek Vigor 2110 Series Router/Firewall. Has all you want, is a very good spec and comes with a usb shared media port. The Draytek website has all the info. Be warned they are a little more expensive than some but are they are top end routers.
