I told the ladies on the train exactly what it was, and we had a very interesting chat. They asked if I knew of an equivalent website across the pond, which I don't, so when they get home they're going to look us up and see if anyone has any info for them.

If you're talking to someone who you do not want to know (let's face it most have someone in that category) then 'a charity' would do (be ready with a suitably boring generic charity but can't remember the name type follow up). It's actually not that big a fib in any case 'cos this place provides free counselling for the debauched and weary!

You see for people who've you never met before and are meeting in passing, why keep it a secret. It's a lifestyle thing really isn't it? For family and friends, work collegues and the like you have to be devious but why not tell somebody about it all? After all you never know your luck really do you....although I know mine, still not won the lottery dammit.

I got questioned a lot when I used to wear pink triangles and a rainbow badge. Depending on the person asking I would either tell them the truth that they were symbols of gay pride and freedom and use the moment to give them a bit of an education, or I'd simply say they are symbols of about living your life the way you want to. I will do a similar thing here. People will either get the truth, or they will get a more "generalised" truth about it being another type of freedom badge. Maybe mine was.
Seems to be split down the middle, with some people proud to wear them and willing to tell all and others being a tad more discreet due to privacy. Which is kind of how i thought it would be... depends on the person, place, timing etc...
As for myself... if someone asked me, who had no idea who I was and i wasn't likely to meet them again,or for them to meet anyone i know, then they're going to get the full lurid details... including bacon sandwiches!! (ask Dave_Notts....)
If it's someone I know, or who i think is a bit suspect, then i'm going to bluff it... and tell them it's an internet thing to do with kittens or online gaming or star trek , or some other inane thing... hopefully they'll be so bored they wont question it further.
