I was in Kent training to be posted to Northern Ireland
I was crashed out on a mattress on the floor of a squat in West Hampstead when I was woken up very early at around 10am by a mate who'd just called around. He kept pointing at the television which was sat on its TV stand (aka orange crate) repeating, "Turn on the telly". So I started to stroke the telly sensuously until it was really turned on. Er, I mean I flicked the switch and saw the first broadcast of what must have been the precursor to 24 hour news channels.
Stunned disbelief. The first stage in the cycle of grief. Shock.
Sad that anyone should die in that way - murdered.
John Lennon? Wrote some good songs, full stop.
Sorry, but he wasn't that important in my life.
I was eight but remember the day clearly. We were being taken to school by my mum in the car and it came on the radio he had died. She pulled over and started to cry. We understood why because she always played his music going to school. One of my early childhood memories. Good thing is we always have his music ot listen to.
I was 13 years old and off school with adolescent man flu.
I remember feeling deep sadness. I already appreciated the quality of Lennon's contribution to popular music culture, particularly as one quarter of The Beatles.
Basket Case
I was also not born but his music is bloody amazing and it was a great shame...
i was probably listening to cheesey 80's music round a freinds house whilst on the knock from school..
I'm another youngun, it would have been about two years before I was even conceived!
Either working or at home enjoying my (then) 15 months old daughter, Mrs was 4 months pregnant with our son............... Both are grown up now and Mrs a distant memory..
H doesn't know what she was doing, but being 19 at the time thinks it probably involved work, drinking, and shagging

I was still a twinkle in my parents eyes. I may be young, but still a huge Beatles fan.
I was in my mummy's tummy.
I've never been a fan of the Beatles but JL did write some good songs and stuff so fair play to him. It wasn't good that he was murdered but unfortunately that's the way of the world.
