No, but then 'ladies' has always had a more negative context than 'gentlemen'
A 'gentlemen' was the pinnacle of society, to be aspired to by all men. One who talks grandly of things compleatly beyond the understanding of mere women.
A 'lady' gossiped idly in her room with her chambermaid.
I do understand how it's use can seem demeaning Blue, but things are changing slowly. Nowadays, some men use it as a form of deferment, when wanting to show respect.

Oh, so it was you that was chasing me, I had noticed the footsteps but hadn't bothered looking round to see who it was wink

So - it's not just me that finds "ladies" a negative term, thanks for the historical info - shame Geoff's not here (where is Geoff btw?) - he's very good at history. I found Geoff interesting and I wanted to tell him that I checked out the dogging location he recommended, anyway, I digress... I look forward to seeing what other folks think about "ladies" :twisted:

I tend to think of it as an expression of my behaviour rather than a generic term for a male. I would like to think that being polite and acting in a gentlemanly manner is a dying art nowadays. I would hold a door open for anyone, male or female, but if someone - male or female, took exception to this - Fuck 'em! It's as much my right to act in a gentlemanly way as it is their's to refuse it. Each to their own kiss
