kiss (in a purely platonic way - I'm sure Will could give a glowing explanation of the origin of the term platonic as our resident academic)
Well, bassdude. I am flattered ( redface ) but I am sure you don't really want me to launch into a discourse on Plato.
What was that? Oh you do?
Very well.........
*clears throat impressively* Ahem!
The term platonic comes, of course, from the Greek philosopher Plato (427 - 347 BC) a former pupil of Socrates. However, platonicas a word to describe a non-sexual loving relationship was not used until the Renaissance, being first recorded in English in 1533. Indeed at that time amor socraticus and amor platonicus, both Latin rather than Greek, of course , were used interchangeably.......
.......Hey, what's going on?
Fred!! Kat!!! What are you doing?
Oi......gerrofff!!! mad :x
:gagged: :gagged: :gagged: :gagged:
*slaps hands together with a smirk of smug statisfaction*
Right!
Thats taken care of that!

So, to you two and everyone else who doesn't think I'm a complete twat....

I said I forgive you - I still think you are a Twat!

WHAT?
Oh - cummon - he asked for that - fancy asking Will to go off on one! rolleyes
Thanks for your enlightening explanation of the term Platonic. I do, however, think it would be perfectly fair for you to elaborate a bit more if you so wish!! After all, that's why Sappho loves you and I - our extensive comprehension of the English language...
As for Fred, thanks m8..... NOT!!!

mmm!! mmmmm!!!!
Will taps frantically from the inside of the screen hoping that Wilma, Jags, Sappho or someone will come and set him free if he promises to keep quiet in future.
Actually, in Sappho's case I promise to keep alliterating if she sets me free
Pretty please???? *puts on best 'spaniel' stare and quivering lip*
I LOVE:
All the different personalities on here
The way we were welcomed by everyone
The banter
and most of all....
Coming home on a Friday, opening a bottle of wine and pissing off the blokes in the GFZ, there's no better way to relax!
I HATE:
When people disappear
When members argue to the point that they don't make friends again
and
When I've not been online for a few days and I have a million posts to read! lol
(no, I can't just skim through them, I might miss something!)
I like how days ago i knew no one here and in just a short time I feel part oif the community biggrin Just trying to change my name on chatroom to include mrs p confused . both looking forward to mujnching wink
I love this site for you guys, all of the above that have posted in their own nutty way.
You lot amaze me with your humour and your seriousness when its called for.
I wish I could hug every one of you!
Dawn :silly:
p.s. nice thread Wilma xxxxxx
I am fairly new to this but i enjoy the the witty posts, the humouress (and not so) discussions, and the welcoming way that advice and friendship is offered for those who wish to accept it.
Wow!!! Where to start? This could go on for a while so I suggest you make yourself comfortable. No, not that comfortable, sit up!!
What does the cafe mean to those who use it?
I think the first thing that attracted me to the Forum was the humour. Before “de-lurking” I read many posts and found myself in awe at the great comedy value. It was like reading a sitcom. The more I read, the more I got to know the characters, until it got to the stage where I was looking forward to finishing work and going home just to see how a certain thread had developed. I half expected to see the credits rolling down the monitor:
1st Man in corner.....................Fred Flintstone
Bossy Slapping Woman.............. Jags
Seductive Temptress....................Sappho
Matriarch.....................................Wilma
Matriarch’s Friend.........................Kit
2nd Man in corner..........................Kat
Man in field..................................Artificer
Old man in pub..............................Harry O
Naked Waiter................................Will
Man thinking in background.............................Carpathian
Man spitting dummy out in chatroom!! ................Steve G
Director...........................................Mal
Producer.........................................Mark
Costumes.........................................Blue
A SWINGING HEAVEN PRODUCTION MMIV
See, if you scroll down it looks just like the credits on T.V.!!!
Anyway, by the time I joined in I felt like I knew all these people in the same way I know Joey from Friends for example. So, when I got round to my first post I was thrilled when all these hero’s of mine made the effort to make me feel welcome, which I in turn have tried to do now whenever anyone else joins. After a while I began to feel comfortable joining in the madness and was able to create my own little niche (HoS(ND)) and then felt a sense of belonging.
So that is what it means to me, a sense of belonging in this little community, where each of us has their own identity, which may be completely different to their real identity, but everyone seems to fit into the sit com script. I spend many hours at work and many more hours at home with my family so this for me is escapism, I can be as silly as I want and nobody complains (too much!!!!) and some actually encourage it!!
What do you enjoy seeing most?
The effort that a lot of people put into the various threads:
Brumlads “Bilko Action Figures”, Fred’s Comedy, Will’s considered opinions and dry humour, Atificers detailed observations, Harry O’s wise words, Kats efforts with the GFZ, , Jags’ slaps and hard exterior, Carpathian’s ramblings, Wilma’s witty retorts, Sapphos ability to always find just the right words, Kits on screen dominance of Kat and Alex and her avatars.
I love the silly threads and the way they are so unpredictable. One of my favourites, and there are many, was the Morse code when Kat was in the GFZ. I can’t believe that I still have a Morse code converter shortcut on my desk top, just in case!!!!
I enjoy the GFZ (though not so much recently) and the boy v girl banter.
I love the friendship. Never before have I bonded with so many people so quickly. As I have said in previous threads I would do almost anything I could for the people here if they needed me.
I love the fact that I sometimes sit here giggling with anticipation at what the next post will say in reply to the previous one, even if I’m not involved.
I love the avatars. I am now convinced that people look like their avatars, so when I think about someone from here I automatically think of their avatars.
So Jags looks like the one with the swimming costume, Sappho like her original one, Will I can see in his tights, and Fred and Wilma look like Fred and Wilma!!!
So much so that the Fred and Wilma on T.V. are impostors in my world!!!!
I enjoy the fact that I am rediscovering the art of writing again. Not since my days as Private Bilko have I written so much. I’d forgotten how much fun it can be to conjure up pictures in people’s minds with use of the written text instead of verbally. I have resigned myself to the fact that I will make spelling mistakes and that my grammar may not be as Her Mage would like, but nobody ever complains about it.
I love the diversity of the people here and how almost everyone has the ability to make me laugh. (Maybe that says more about me!! Am I the village idiot laughing at anything and everything?)
I enjoy reading other peoples posts and finding myself thinking “I wish I had thought of
Most of all, I just like the people here. I even like the ones that I don’t like!! What I mean is that I like not liking them!! It is all part of the rich tapestry that is the Forum.
What do you dislike about the cafe?
Now, this is far more difficult than the “likes”.
I don’t like people posting just for the sake of posting, where they don’t actually say anything, or add anything to the thread.
I dislike rudeness when it is just for the sake of being rude. I enjoy debates and disagreement because it would be boring if we all agreed all the time, but I don’t see disagreement as an excuse for being rude.
Mmmmmm, scratches head desperately trying to think of anything else I dislike…….
Oh yes, the fact that I missed Wilma’s group hug yesterday.
HUGS Sarge all on my own
BOSSY, SLAPPING, HARD EXTERIOR???????????? Is that how I come over??? Grief...I'm a softie, mind you Fred doesn't think so after my decisive and very stern actions last night but at least he was amused.
I'm not hard, bossy...yes but only if you wear a school uniform (NO!!! in real life you pervs!!). I am made of spun sugar and melt at the first sign of soothing and soft handling. Hold me and feel me meld into your touch.
*Shakes self out of dwam*
Hi Jags xxxxx That's why I said "Hard exterior" because I know that inside you are a big softy really!!!
Sgt Bilko
passionkiss for the Sarge for the most thoughtful and eloquent post.

Hi Jags xxxxx That's why I said "Hard exterior" because I know that inside you are a big softy really!!!

Hope you don't intend to share that with the whole world though, you'd ruin my reputation.
x xx

Right lads!.....There's that Bilko fella over there. Go kick his arse!.......leaving me out of his TV credits.......grrrrrr! evil
Nice post Sarge! biggrin :D :D
It's all been said I think.....the diversity, the humour, the friendship, the characters and personalities. The whole damned place is just so addictive.
I've got to give special mention to Mark though.......not the most prolific poster in the cafe but my appreciation for his undying enthusiasm to keep the place running just can't be overstated. worship :worship:
Dislikes?......too trivial to mention.
OK guys.........back to barracks. That'll teach the uppity b*stard! :D
Steve 8)
Sorry Steve, I have ammended it !!!!!
(Now calling up reinforcements just in case he's still not happy!!! )
Tsk, tsk.......phrases containing the words 'stable door' and 'horses bolting' come to mind. rolleyes
You were caught with your trousers down Seargent.....the security of the whole site was compromised just because you were having a fluffy moment all to yourself.
Maybe we should convene a court martial?......hmm......now where could I find an unbiased panel?
The GFZ???
Steve
I can't believe that with THAT avatar he says I've been caught with my pants down!!!!!

Sgt Bilko

I just love these!!
Tip of the week folks - if you do this quote thing then you get the code for the pics!!!! Waffen and violent are mentioned in the same code... it's a worry.
Sarge - you get an extra long snog first time we meet, just for the pics!
x xx
I totally agree with so much that's been said. I was amazed when I discovered this site - there's a lot of love in this virtual room, and I'm grateful to you all for helping me through what was rather a rough patch for me. What do I like? The warmth, banter, wit, humour, erudition, give-and-take, absence of taking selves too seriously, and diversity of everyone here - in short, the people. So many times I've been genuinely helpless with laughter, and so many times I've wanted to reach into the screen and hug people. I love how those of you that I've met are even better in real life.
I think those who design and run this site do a truly remarkable job - thank God for people like you, you make the world turn a lot smoother.
I love that Spem In Alium is on the CD (when's it out, by the way?)
I'm hard pushed to think of anything I don't like about the forum. I don't like rudeness and so on, but that's hardly a major feature.
I will confess to being a little disappointed that you used a shortcut for your Morse though Sarge.

I am interested to find out what does the cafe mean to those who use it ? What do you enjoy seeing most (and I don't mean pics)? What do you dislike about the cafe?

It is like a surprise party every week.

I've been waiting for posts to die off (which they now have) so I'll be grabbing the entire thread as a text file, sorting out the list of tracks and seeing howe the hell to juggle 473 balls at the same time (that is NOT the queue for a comedy punchline either !)
In fact I'm off to draw a line under the thread and get things moving !
Carpathian
Your wish is my command Sarge!!

Love and big group hugs

Its nice to find a non-judgmental place to be open and honest
Here's the perfect example of how wonderful this place really is - the friends I've made here. Recently I was informed by my misguided employers that I was being made redundant. That really made my day I can tell you - but the friends I mentioned it to were so supportive, kind and loving I really didn't feel so bad at all.
Then yesterday afternoon I got called for a job interview this morning. I was inundated with good luck texts, calls and messages from those same friends. I walked into that interview on air as opposed to eggshells. Don't know if I've got the job, but I don't care because there is the Cafe (kiss for Mark) and the people in it.
So a :rose: thank you and  to Blissed, Carpathian, Feenix, Mal609, Mr Writer, Steve_1, Steveg_nw and Willxx69.
Sappho xxx
Oh Sappho! Well fingers crossed for this new job, hope they deserve you too biggrin
Lovely example of what a unique sight this is :rose:
No problem, Sappho. If you've only done one thing for me, you've raised my self-confidence. I hope that this is reciprocated (it's certainly meant to be) and that combined, we have helped you get the job you deserve.
Stay well.
James
Good Luck Sappho
Good things to good people.....
Always willing to talk! lol
I love reading all the posts. I just wish it was possible to spend more time in The Cafe as I always seem to come in at the end of a thread.
The eloquence and wit of some of the posts does make me feel quite inarticulate  so I shall curl up in my favourite spot on the sidelines and watch, listen and smile smile.
I did recheck my spelling and punctuation - would hate to incur the 'Wrath of Will' wink
Lucy xxx
Lucy,
Will's just a pussycat really! But I know what you mean - check and double check!!!
Sappho xxx
Nobody tells me nuffink! - I'm always the last to hear! - sniff!
Sorry to hear your news Sappho - hope you get the job - if you really want it of course!
