...between Newcastle and Gateshead? (this is a serious question BTW- i know, unusual for me)
I guess i could do with a local, or someone who knows the areas well, to tell me where each area starts and stops. I'm mainly concerned with the area to the south of the bridge, by the armadillo, the flour mill and the flippy over walk bridge.
i need to know for a work thing- google aint helping either. I don't want to piss off the locals by getting it wrong so i'm appealing to you, the SH knowledge bank, to help me
Than-Q wink
The Armadillo & Baltic Mill are in Gateshead.
Gateshead is south of the river tyne, Newcastle is across the bridge to the north

What he said. The River Tyne is the natural divide.
Newcastle and Gateshead are distinctly different entities, NewcastleGateshead is a marketing concept borne out of the unsuccessful campaign to be the city of culture a few years back. Newcastle would never have wanted to be associated with Gateshead at one time, it being described as a "dirty back lane to Newcastle" but all of the recent buildings/tourist attractions of note, ie The Sage, Baltic, Angel of the North and Millenium Bridge are all Gateshead projects.
If you want any further info Meaty, feel free to pm me.
Yep from my side of the Tyne (Newcastle), Gateshead is called the shithouse on the hill. Hope that helps wave

So, just to clarify the area in my head. if i cross the bridge from the baltic side, thats newcastle on the other side (turn left for the station)?

Yes,
If ypu walk over the eyebrow shaped footbridge with Baltic Mill and Sage behind you, you will be walking into Newcastle, Malmaison hotel straight in front amd high level road bridge to your left. Not sure where the station is though....i'm still young enough to drive lol

yes that's correct......if you cross the Tyne by either the Tyne or High Level Bridges, it's a left turn for the station
Also, the expression "getting off at Gateshead" refers to pulling out just before you come.
The convo could be;
Woman; "don't come in me, I'm not on the pill"
Man; "don't worry I'll get off at Gateshead". Probably lying thro his teeth btw.
Dates back to the railway line from Sunderland to Newcastle (now superceded by the Metro), Gateshead is the last stop before Newcastle and most people would not want to get off there !!

And don't call Gateheadians Geordies I guess. (Same applies to Sunderlanders too).

Those from Sunderland are Mackems but those from Gateshead (of which I am one) are, to the best of my knowledge, Geordies.

OOpps I stand corrected. I was up in Sunderland yesterday and a couple of weeks ago - lovely area. But then I'm biassed - one of they 'bloody Northerners' myself. biggrin:D:D

There is no real rivalry between Newcastle and Gateshead, the way that there is between Newcastle and Sunderland...........not until Gateshead FC make it to the Premiership anyway lol
*Holds up hand* Geordie export here, born in Gateshead wave
Planning an expedition back to the homeland next year so watchout

Of course, once a Geordie always a Geordie........unless you've gone native lol
Newcastle - Gateshead - Sunderland????????
Whats the difference? the real difference is that none of them are Durham City.
Cos Durham City is the real hidden gem of the North-East - but keep it quiet eh - we really don't wanna be over-run by the soft buggas from the south
Or even the lads n lasses from Newcastle, Gateshead & Sunderland
