What do you cook really well? What do you know you can do to perfection, to impress.
I have a few things i know i can do really well 99% of the time. Tonight if i was entertaining I would be preparing for my guests, whilst leaving me time to enjoy their company.
3 dishes. Starter Main and sweet

Fresh home made vegetable soup
with garlic Brushcetta (thats the posh bit) biggrin
------------------------
Venison Casserole with herb dumplings,
------------------------
Home made Chocolate & Raspberry roulade served with clotted Cornish cream.
------------------------

Right at this moment thats what i'd serve, though admitted it is a bit of a winter warmer choice.
I think I might consult Ukwineman about the wines to go with together with as an aperitif and a digestive.
I do a delish dessert of double cream beaten with condensed milk and stiffened up with lemon juice and zest. Layered up with crushed ginger nuts in a big wine glass it is gorgeous.
Main courses vary - I can make a damned good casserole but each one is different LOL.
Starters? I don't really do them - I like to leave room for dessert biggrin:D:D:D:D:D
I do a mean fishfinger butty, garnished with a sprinkling of sarsons.

The one thing that never fails to impress a group of people is deep fried everything lol
Knock up a bucket of coating batter and a few dips and have the oil ready when people arrive
Mushrooms
Tiger prawns
Onion rings
Courgettes
Parsley sprigs
All sorts of stuff can be bunged in the batter and it makes a change from the traditional three courses.
For dessert
Apples
Pineapples
Bananas
Or choclate mousse !! I make a mean choclate mousse
I`m lucky that although I have a small house it is mostly kitchen  So when I entertain I`m cooking in the same room as the guests are sitting.

Deep fried chocolate mousse, how does that work then? Like Baked Alaska?
starter1
sun dried tomatoes on slighty toasted Olive bread with finger tip of salad
starter 2
Home made leek and potato soup with a dash on single cream and crutons
main course
2Toulousse(french)sausages with rice mixed with spring onions and coriander, served with red wine sauce and dices of chunky bacon cooked in balsamic vineager
Dessert
home made Tart tatin(apple)served warm with white cholotate ice cream
if this menu doesnt make her take her pants off then get her drunk
i don't do enough cooking, to have anything that is really a speciality and guessing warmed up Pizza doesnt really count
but.... the best i can do is beans on burnt toast ( thats after 3 attemps to cook none burnt toast, and then giving up, cause the beans are going all wierd in the pan)
I'm not a fancy cook but my food's good biggrin
Starters would be a prawn salad with home made thousand island dressing
Main course - roast pork with steamed veggies, roasties, crackling, home made chunky apple sauce and proper gravy
Dessert - something light like a sorbet
better still, I'd get my mate superman72 around to do the cooking coz he's amazing
Hmmmm... my mind has gone a blank with regards to starters, so for that reason I would say canapes and just get people working up their appetite.
Then I'm pretty profficient at making crispy peking duck with spring onion and cucumber and hoy sin sauce etc.
For dessert I found a great recipe for brandy and chocolate mousse that should be served with clotted cream. I also make my own icecream and sorbets.
Last time I had anyone over for a meal was about 6 weeks ago now and yes I did the crispy duck thing.

Oh thank you...I did chuckle. You'd get on with one of my friends...can't even cook a tin of baked beans without some catastophe!! ;)
Mine would be:
Starter melon and parmaham
Main Cabonara
Sweet Hazelnut cheezecake
So may yummy dishes on here so far, maybe we should organise one huge cook fest with more than sweets for afters!!!
cabonara
chorizo
tart tatin
brushetta
toulade
what on earth arre these things?
I can cook. But never know what to call the result.
'research' might cover it.
lp
toast ... but even that i either burn or drop on the floor !!!
Mine would be beef stroganoff using lovely sliced fillet of beef.
Not really into deserts, so would probably end up buying that from the deli
I love to cook, in younger days I spent 4 years at catering college, and loved it.
I have worked in younger days in major hotels all over the country, and seen most dishes cooked / served.
I can cook most things, it is getting certain people to eat it that is the problem!!!
I personally love roast dinners.

Agree there, tempura batter covers most things... have you tried it with vegetables? asparagus tips, corn, cauliflower and carrots are mmmmmm done that way!
I'm cooking for friends on Saturday, I'm not bothering with a starter because we just get too full, but I'm doing individual beef wellingtons, red wine gravy, rosemary potatoes and steamed veggies followed by lemon syllabub.. simple but tasty
confused Hmmmmm :?
Cant decide to gatecrash Sassys or Mars now biggrin
I'm not a fab cook but the kids like it...
Prawn cocktail
Belly of pork covered in raw stuffing roasted in the oven , with roast potatos and veg.
Trifle
Will have to think about a starter and a pud, sorry thats a bit lame...
However, I do a pretty fookin fantastic lardons/pancetta, leeks, white wine, mascarpone, ground nutmeg and pasta type thing...
Lost how could you cook Bambi  wink
bolt
Ooooh... what would I cook if you came round to mine?
Not sure on a starter, but how about a lemon chicken rissoto? Or maybe chicken, chorizo and prawn jambalaya? Or steak with home made chips... oooh or dauphinoise potatoes? Or a steak and ale pie?
I love cooking for people. Crap at cooking for myself but I love to do it for others.

Wouldn't mind a bit of that menu myself... I'm rather lean (some say gristly) so I'll need to be sloooooow cooked

Anything with condensed milk or cream have priority, trouble is the condensed milk may have already been eaten before it got into the puds
As regards the main post, it has to be fast food on my cooking agenda
Starter unlikely but maybe Stuffed Mushrooms on a special occasion
Spag bol
Pork Chops and a selection of veg
Roast with roast veg if severe illness inflicts those close! (OK before you moan I know this one is not fast)
Dessert basically anything sweet and preferably sticky. If its fruit top it with castor sugar, in addition top everything with ice cream and cream, extra thick double!
PS I have to say I spend most of my time with a fantastic cook, who does delicious food, thanks hun kiss
