As a kid and teenager u get oh so excited for your birthday, having a party etc but as u get older (as it seems) you don't get as excited about your birthdays.
I looked forward to my 18th and 21st, with it being a "coming of age" thing. I kinda did when I reached 25, even tho we joke about it being a quarter of a century :lol2:
When did you stop looking forward (as much) to ur next birthday? When did u start the "Im getting old" thoughts?
For me it started at 26. It's like your still a spring chicken in your early 20s, but once u pass that half-way mark, it's like 30 is nigh! :scared:
A friend I went to school with said on her facebook she was dreading turning 27, as she felt she was edging so near to 30. I'm really dreading the first digit of my age turning to a 3  I wouldn't feel like a spring chicken anymore, however, on the flip side, I look at people's profiles in their 30s and don't class it as old. I don't class 40s as old. I think I'll stop before I start digging lol
This is not a thread saying people are old etc etc blah blah, all Im wondering is,the question I've used as the forum topic. Please don't bite kiss
i really hate birthdays, well mine anyway lol.
its not about gettin older, i just really hate them.
never had a good one as a child.
i just wish other people ( family and friends) would realise i actually mean this and stop trying to make them into some big event.
its my 40th next and im considering booking the time away just so i dont have to be around.
i dont mind a quick happy birthday i hate to be the centre of attendtion.
i book the day off work, not as a treat , but so i know they cant do anything.
xx fem xx
Awwwwww :therethere: Sorry to read that kiss Wow, it just goes to show there are other reasons why people don't look forward to them

Good idea...
Have a dirty weekend somewhere :rascal:
Ladies, ladies! Your 40's are the most amazing decade! You're mature to be comfortable with where you're at yet young enough to still do stuff the yung 'uns do PLUS you've been around long enough to do it better! Embrace it as the most exciting decade you've had so far!
I'm 50 next year and I plan to spend my big day walking Hadrian's Wall ( I've asked and he's ok with it so long as I promise not to spray 'Sassy woz ere' all along the way wink )
Bring it on!!!
I'm kind of ambivalent about birthdays. I am really not that bothered about the number thing, there's absolutely nothing you can do to change it. You can lie about it if it makes you feel better but you will still have been the same number of years on the planet. I too hate being the centre of attention, so parties in my honour would, and do, just make me cringe.
I was 40 this year and wanted to just treat it as another day, maybe with a few cards and a nice dinner, but my extended family insisted the achievement should not be allowed to pass without some sort of celebration. It seems you cannot fail to make an occasion out of another decade of existence, it's the law!
To me 40's are not old anyway, although I may feel slightly differently about 50, it depends on my personal circumstances by then. If I am making the most of my life and freedom from children, I suspect 50 will hold fewer terrors for me, but I doubt I will want a party to celebrate 'getting there'. I struggle to get excited about my kids' birthdays, let alone my own.
I always looked forward to my birthday because it was an excuse for an even more extreme piss up than usual, and my friends would look forward to it to, those who didn't dread it.
Anyway all that changed just recently when I went to see my quack. I'd had blood tests for liver and kidney functions etc and although my liver is alright my kdneys are not, neither is my blood sugar or tryglicerol, then he said the bottom reading was too high and his recomendation was to cut out the booze. Two days later my eldest son turned up with a bottle of Jack Daniels and a nice Cuban cigar, I was unable to accept either as I only smoked when drinking.
That was my 43rd and things will never be the same again. sad
i stopped looking forward to bitrhdays about this time last week.
steve getting away for your 40th sounds a great idea, its also what i'd been planning for a long time as well as the last place i wanted to be when i woke on my 40th was bloody here lol but alas circumstances got in the way n it twasn't meant to be .........so go for it x
n crikey feeling old when your in your 20's?? eh???
I've never stopped looking forward to birthdays and always do a countdown. It's mine 10 weeks tomorrow biggrin
Reaching the next birthday is better than the alternative, I say.
