Where'd My Creativity Go?!!

ok... I swore to myself I wouldn't ever create a new post... I'm too lazy to do extensive searches and so I fear the wrath that is "the search button is your friend," I don't want to bore anyone, I don't want the piss taken out of me for posting a whinge and I also greatly fear the "locked post cos you're a twit"... but I'm having a little freak out and so I thought: Why not share this on the forum with people who have never met me! (an idea I'm going to regret wholeheartedly in like... two minutes.)
anyway, here's the thing: I am past deadline on a design project and I am suffering severe creativity block. My heart is palpitating, my palms are sweaty and I have a good notion to go rock quietly in the corner with a bottle of whiskey until the nice men in white coats come. My last design for this project was shot down and with it, my confidence.
so... what do you all do when this happens to you? I'm sure creativity block comes in all forms and surely there is a cure? I've had this before, but it hasn't been this bad in awhile. Any advice? any stories? any good cocktail recipes??? I'm trying to take a few deep breaths but it's getting the way of my hyperventilating...

Listen to the song you sent me.
Or listen to something inspiring. Every time I get a mental block or creative block I listen to music and it fires up the synapses again.
Just relax, have some Revels lol and if necessary, plagiarise*
*Don't blame me if you do and get caught :P
Um er, sleep Ocky... I always find I am my most creative with a good nights sleep and a few good coffee's. Stress is a real mind killer for me, I can't do creative and be wound up so try to chill if you can.
Otherwise your friends may be the key, call em up and bounce ideas around, somthing will come to you in time.
I think you've already found the answer, just hang around here a while, chill, and then try later.
John

thanks guys... I usually take an "ok I will survive" outlook but tonite's gone particularly badly for me. I suppose I shouldn't have posted about it anyway. I knew i'd live to regret it!!!
wish there was a trick tho, like getting rid of the hiccups...
You can do it, don't let the bastards get you down.

where are those bastards anyway - I think it's time they got a good beating.
< << off to get my cricket bat.
uuuummmmmmm . . . i'm probably not the right person to advise, cos all my uni work was kinda deferred with a deadline fast approaching. rolleyes
the best thing to do, is simply stop thinking about it. go to bed, go out, watch telly, wash up . . . . and at some point, everything will hopefully just randomly click into place, and away you go. staying up all night stressing about it ain't very helpful, so just stop.
best of luck

ok - time that I repaid your advice
5 Unblockers for you:
1. Mathematrical Unblocker:
draw 17 circles of different sizes on your piece of paper
take a look at them
squint at them a bit
join them up
squint at them a bit more
colour a few of the circles in
keep on squinting
any ideas yet?
2. Literal Unblocker:
write down the following 4 words 'lunacy', independent', 'flavour', 'delve'
now add 9 words of your own
make up 3 sentences involving at least 3 of the words you've written
use one to start writing
3. Rethinking:
consider yourself walking down a street
watch a boy helping a lady cross the street
see her strike him
watch him pulling his hand out of her handbag
see him putting the toffee into his mouth
4. Philosophical
consider how green colourless ideas can sleep furiously
5. Physical
think of 3 things you havben't done since you were six
do a head stand
then do the first one
shout 'porridge' out of your front window very loudly
do the next one
pick your nose and flick the boggie
do your last one
one of these has got to work......
best of luck
(not such a bad guy - honest!)

As long as you don't do what i did in this situation, got drunk, failed my exams at uni and had to spend an extra year doing my re-takes!

go to cupboard
look at vast array of shoes confronting you
realise you always wear the same pair
take out a different pair
fill with gin
empty said shoe
rellok at blank piece of paper from new perspective

rotflmao :rotflmao:
I never thought to look to avid merrion for advice!
thanks to all above for your help and suggestions. in answer to some: mr. ocky has been soundly spanked for his "no more shoes" protesting, I ADORE fraggle rock and of course own a few DVD's which I am going to watch while drawing circles and staring at them, puffin on an herbal ciggie, swigging my whiskey from my shoes AND taking a nap shortly after. Then waking up and getting drunk again, blowing off my deadline and being sent back a year in uni (even tho I graduated a looong time ago)
did I miss anyone??
can't believe I can still type straight...

I have to agree - Music is the one thing that always re-inspires me! Either that or i'll take myself out somewhere quiet and beautiful for a walk.
hope this helps

Get to bed mate what you doing up so late?
Anyway creativity, what gets my juices going again????
Old photos or reading an old book - sounds a bit hairy fairy but it takes you sometimes to where you want to be and reminds you of where you should be.
It's the lentils mannnnnnnnnn

see - i'm glad i'm not the only one - if i have time - i normally head off into the wilds of wales and do one of the peaks in snowdonia. Bloody hard work getting to the top ( but that in itself is therapeutic) but once you get to the top - well, words just fail to explain!

Was trying to find a pic of the most beautiful place in Sheffield for a sunrise or sunset.
It's virtually my back garden - some crags to sit on with a brandy and truly amazing with snow everywhere.
It's called the Bole Hills x Def worth checking out and knock for a coffee anyone!
