Which entertainment supplier?
BIt off current topic lines but hey ho!
Right,
I am cheesed off with Virgin for various reasons and would like to change suppliers for Phone, Tinterweb and TV.
History.
Before i moved to this new house i requested that BT set up a new BT contract to this new address from my old rented property one.
I moved in and found out that there was a telewest (now virgin) line here too.
Telewest dropped a flyer through the door within days of me moving in and caught my attention etc etc.
Signed up and been with them for a bit but not without issues.
I have 2Mb broad band, evening and weekend call package and standard TV.
The only reason that I can think of staynig with virgin now is for the replay feature on their TV package so you can watch certain shows when you want as opposed to when thay are aired.
Choices
Now i have a friend who bought a 'box' from ebay for £80 and it gives you a multitude of channels at no monthly subscription - sounds good eh.
do i dump virgin for tinterweb and phone and go with someone else and buy a 'box' or do i jump in both feet with another 'whole package' supplier? - if so who do you recommend?
Thanks
I like BT to do my phone :smug:
I like British Gas to do my Gas :smug:
I like NPower to do my Electric :smug:
I like Steve to do my PC and the internet techy thingie :smug:
I like Marks & Spencers to do my Coronation Chicken
:smug:
Sam (the simple girl) xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Fair enough Sam but i may be a little more complicated than you wink
Im out for the best deal based on price V's service besed on other peoples opinions.
I moved just as virgin took over so cant really comment on them.
I had sky tv
ntl phone and internet
never had a problem with either.
in flat i still have sky but got a +box which records all i will ever need its great.
have sky broadband becasue up to 2meg its free was going to go larger but as the distance from the exchange is a problem i could never get any faster anyway.
Had to have a bt phone, now this is the only place im having a problem with.
price wise the whole lot is cheap but as im self employed i refuse to go on direct debit and they are charging me because i dont.
I now have 2 lots of charges plus 2 lots of late payment fees @ each. I just pay the required amount each time and take of the charges.
I do like sky i have to say but i do worry having it all in the same place will lead to a monopoly later if its not already here.
We have the SKY package thing and loved it, all but the Internet side. They simply could not provide a 'decent' broadband service and we were booted off on a hourly basis with no reconnection. Basically, a tenner a month for broadband, you'll get a tenner's worth. No point in cutting corners I think.
BT is about the best for most things, but I'd recommend not going with one company for all but searching around for the best deals.
We now have Orange for broadband, abs fab!, Sky+ for our TV - no problems whatsoever, BT for our phone calls (they've now come in line with all competitors in lowering their package prices).
We may pay slightly more monthly for seperate providers but hey like I've said before you pay for what you get! lol
Oh and by the way, Virgin and Telewest... aren't they one of the same provider now? confused I've heard people having loads of bother there mind.

Don't do it! stay as you are, apparently it's the faster speeds the "Max" deal that cannot cope with the demands placed upon it. My advice only from what I've been told and personally experienced kiss
We have had a full BT package and to be honest they are the best but they are a little high priced - we guess you get what you pay for.
We are currently using TalkTalk and found that overall they provide the best phone/Broadband package for our needs - (no sattelite TV just the basic freeview box for our veiwing needs - we dont watch a lot of TV TBH)
not sure if that helps a lot dunno
BTW we did try the Orange thingy but it was absolute garbage.
move one by one.... that way if you have a foot for both camps that way you can play one off against the other....
for example....
1) tell them you intend to go to sky....first of all they will try to keep you and may offer to bring down your package....
I went TV wise from virgin to sky..... got a good deal on the first year on sky and was paying a lot less then virgin
then I was going to also take the Phone and Internet across to sky as well.... they asked me why, i calmly pointed out £15 a month for 2mb on virgin, as opposed to free on sky...... if they could give me a good reason to stay,i'd be interested to hear it...
Just be calm... don't shout at them, if you are nice to the person at the other end, you are more likely to get more out of them (just a basic customer service tip)
results....
Half price sky TV for 2 years....£23 for the whole package per month
Basic phone line rental on virgin... £12 per month
Basic 2mb Internet on virgin.... Free for as long as I am with them
I did the same as you Fabio. I was an Wanadoo (now Orange) broadband customer for over 7years. I was unhappy with how they moved my account and said I was going to go with Sky as they are also offering telephone and TV with the deal.
Orange came back to me within 30 minutes and 'begged' me to stay with them. They gave me the lifetime deal. 16meg line (or as fast as they can go where ever I move to), no throtterling and no disconnects all for £16 per month, for life. They also threw in the free phone calls on every evening and weekend, so every day when I came back from work, any phones calls out was through my wireless box.
I did have a second phone line in for sky and a BT connection but thats was due to my other needs of communications at the time.
Good luck with what ever you choose. Remember to always ask to be taken off any internet throtterling schemes.
Something that some companies 'say they don't have'. If you are a regular downloader (like me) or play games over the net etc, you will find every so often your connection speed will be vastly reduced or even disconnect for no reason.
Throtterling is when the ISP (especially in busy times when you're sharing the lines with the neighbourhood anyway) starts to give everybody the same speed as that is classed as fair usage.
Started off with Bt for our phone and internet. Got wooed by Bulldog but they were so crap. Then we couldnt get a mac code off them for love nor money so we just had to cancel and return to BT. Bt costs more than most a month for 8 meg and line rental but its the best service weve recieved.
The sky costs are pissing me off though. Now a month, plus £10 for Setanta, plus the tv licence fee. Its a bloody rip off I tell you.

What's an internet throttling scheme?

It's what you want to do to Markz, fluffy.
Have you guys heard of VOIP discount btw? We've just been persuaded to give them a try for the princely sum of 10euros. It's giving us free voip calls to many different countries, and big discounts on others.
Most calls to European landlines are free- as are places such as NZ and Oz.
Like it or not virgin is the best isp around no adsl provider even comes close to cable for internet.
change your package to internet and phone only and pick up a box like your friends for the full tv package, if you get my drift.
PS... i've heard you can also get modems simular to the tv boxes
wouldn't recommend going to anyone offering packages as some of them only give you a 2gb monthly allowance and if you download, browse, use chatrooms etc it all adds up each month. Having said that if you don't use the internet much then some deals can be had.
We are with Virgin/Telewest and have been for years but we have no BT conected to the house, anyway about 6 months ago I signed up to a deal for £30 which was phone line, Broadband & TV.
the TV was crap and kept freezing and after 3 weeks of constantly ringing them up we went ack to Sky TV and got the sky plus box which is one of the best things we have ever bought, I rung Virgin up to cancel and guess what the verbal deal I agreed to meant I was tied in for a year!!! so even though I dont have the virgin TV I am still paying for it!!
i have virgin for tinternet (4mb) telly (xl package +movies) and house / mobile fone
never had any probs and monthly bills for all 4 never over £50 including calls
npower for gas and lecky a bit dearer than some but nevfer had any problems with them so i stay
ive had sky and bt before and think they were very expensive but have the upper hand being available nationwide so can basically charge what they like

They'd have sent confirmation in writing though - and a verbal deal is still binding.

You can fight back because they didn't supply you with a quality service. Verbal agreements work both ways.....
