Anyone watch the programme "live forever" last night?
Was interesting - people are trying a whole host of things to enable them to live to a greater age, for example; growth hormone injections, taking an array of vitamins, living on special diets, cryogenics etc.
Have to say, the guy on the special diet he'd lived on for last 19 yrs looked flipping good for 50 yrs old!
Or what about Aubrey De Grey the biochemist (founder of the Methuselah Foundation), he believes that we shall be able to live for a thousand years. He's researching regenerating body parts - bit like a parts maintenance shop, grow it on demand as you need parts.
Would you want to live forever or a little longer at least? Would you try any of the above?
I know one thing - I'm not having my head frozen confused :?
My body hates me at the moment, so can I have a new one please?

Me too! Bloody humans! lol
It's a hard question - well, kinda.
I have an uncle who is very ill at the mo in hospital. It is heartbreaking to see his physical decline. He has no children or partner and is very down about it all.
So, I guess what I am trying to say is, I defo wouldn't want to live any longer if it was just going to mean many more years of decrepitude and poor health etc.
If I was healthy and had all my faculties? Hmmmm.... confused
I most certainly don't want to live forever,we're not designed for that,If the question was who wants to stay young forever then hell yes lol
If I can stay as healthy as possible for as long as possible then im happy with that and really can't see any reason to spend what life I have worrying about how I can live longer and leading what could be a very boring life in an effort to lenghthen it
Especially when loved ones and friends around me were all dying naturally...how lonely would you feel then?
The more I work in nursing, EMI and residential homes, the more I want to die before I get too old to look after myself.
IF I could have all my health and faculties, if my loved ones also lived that long, and if I could be treated with the respect that many elderly don't get these days, then maybe I'd have a go lol
I don't want to live forever, not with my list of problems rolleyes
I do want to live long enough to enjoy retirement with Ian for a while and to see my children settled down in a way they chose. Either in a relationship or a job they love, just as long as they are happy.
I don't want to grow new parts or freeze my bits :lol2:
When I can't enjoy those around me, when I can't think properly, dress myself or know my own name, I don't want to be here confused
no,not at all
lp
the way each generation seems to be worse than the previous one makes me feel its a good job you you get older it beggars belief how humans treat each other.
I want to live to see england win the world cup......so yes..... rolleyes
Theme song for the the thread...
Nope when my time is done i hope it passes very very suddenly
If you lived forever, your life would be one long procession of other peoples funerals.
I asked myself the same question and that was back in the good old days the year of 827 was a odd year as i recall. Sitting there watching Egbert trying to fit that farce of a crown on, oh how we did laugh
Living for ever is a concept as alien to me as death but hey given health then hell yeah, why not :bounce:
Gimme the prize! biggrin
What a great question! I'm reading a book at the mo which covers (fictionally) some of the ramifications of extending life.
There are all sorts of things to consider. For example, if people stopped dying where would we get the reasources (food/shelter/energy etc) to support them?
If the life-extending process/drugs/whatever was expensive (which it undoubtedly would be) would it cause another two-tier class structure? How could we justify life extention for some nations while the third world continued to die early as they do now?
And as people get older wouldn't they want to hang on to things like jobs, homes, money etc. Life for the young would become one long wait for things they're never likely to achieve.
I for one would like to get a few more years out of life, but not if I can't have my health with it. Who would want to extend the agony of old age and infirmity?
Yes please, but fit, healthy and not degenerating into a sponge.
Live forever?
Nah, sod that, I'm bored enough already.
confused

Oooooo sounds interesting - what's the name of the book if you don't mind me asking?
GnV - sorry not watched the vid yet - dial up - will take an hour to load rolleyes
I agree with many that it wouldn't be much fun if not healthy enough to enjoy an extended life.
Would be fascinating to see how technologies change, if they find a cure for cancer? etc. will the moon become a dumping ground (thinking of the news today - possible to send the dead via pod to moon as a burial) or will people be living on it? will human cloning be the norm in 100 yrs time?
wouldnt mind being frozen and let loose hundreds of years later.
see whats happened and see if this global warming thing is a tax fiddle.
No thanks!!! lol

Errr... Forever sounds such a long time Keeping your health only works for me if everyone around you can keep theirs - when I visit "retirement" homes and see the residents - if all your friends have gone before you and your family never visits, even if you are relatively healthy and mentally alert - is this really what we want ? sad But Cure for Cancer, that would be so brilliant - in the mean time I'm just waiting for someone to develop a simple pill that causes unwanted hair to fall out !
biggrin

Eh?
Jesus Prays for Himself
1After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed: "Father, the time has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. 2For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him.3Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.4I have brought you glory on earth by completing the work you gave me to do. 5And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.
