All this age stuff..youngest oldest swinger etc..
Its got me all nostalgic for my youff..
I used to love NTNON ...such classics as Rowans rant....and who could forget the classic Monty Python parady..General Synods Life of Christ lol
"there is litle enough real python around these days"
"look hes even got the same initials JC ...Our Lord John Cleese"
( Yes I am old ..forty so there :!: )
I vaguely remember them the first time round .... but have more memories of sitting on the stairs hearing them rather than watching ...
NTNON hasn't been run on repeats like a lot of the other comedy shows .. which is a pity but I bet you can get them on video somewhere.
There is always a Golden Era and it is always 25 years ago!
NTNON was crap, in my view... I much prefered The Goodies!!
I'm old enough to rememeber . Parents bought me a black n white portable T.V for my bedroom . Would retire at the said time and , Ahhhhh ......wooops Pamela Stephenson.
Also liked The Young Ones , but they didn't have the same effect !!
Sorry Heather gonna have to put you straight there..... wink
The goodies were amusing granted however NTNON were groundbreaking alternative comedy which then spawned a whole generation of new comedy shows such as Blackadder et al.
I seem to recall the goodies were more 'wacky slapstick' - almost Benny Hill like but without the overtones and inuendo.
Benny Hill - now theres a legend!!

Errrrrrrrrrniiiiiie
And he drove the fastest milkcart in the west ..
I think the Benny Hill show introduced me to scantily clad women for the first time, or was it something with Kenny Everett, cant remember but I was only a wee nipper at the time. smile

I never thought the late Mr Hill was that good, but always chuckle at the character he played in the Italian Job - Professor Peach. "Oooooh I like 'em... B-BIG"
Saw the other day the original Andy Pandy films are that badly worn from repeating them upto 1969 that they cant be copied...now that WAS a classic...!
Another TV comedy nostalgia thread...!
cool Cool! biggrin
Warwick, how long before one of your surreal alter-egos hijacks this as well...?
:P
Yes, but who used to watch Monkey, with Tripituka (or something like that) lol
Used to watch it, but what utter crap! duel
No, No, No
Yet again another that needs correcting in the righteous ways of TV viewing.
Monkey was absolutely superb - f*cking hilarious.
The only issue was one of tripitaku's gender - and to be honest if you turn him/her over it doesnt really matter!!!
Oooooh someone else remembers Monkey!!! I love you! Monkey!!!
Friday evening, glass of milk and a peanut butter sandwich - time for a bit of Monkey Magic.
Sky were showing repeats a few years back but then stopped, out of the blue
God, I loved that show..
what was the question again? oh yes, nine o'clock news, was that on on tuesdays? matron let us watch that, it was on at 7 o'clock, that nice frank bough was on it. he had some nice cardies.

Nostalgia is so reassuring isn't it? I probably shouldn't admit to this, but I actually remember the TV program "All Our Yesterdays" it was all about things from 25 years ago, trouble is I think it was on about 25 years ago redface .

Judy I remember "All Our Yesterdays" too, way back in the 1960s. It always seemed to be about the 2nd world war and rationing. It was always a world of grey fog and smoke with people going about in overcoats belted up to stave off hunger. It made me believe that the past was very grim indeed and that the world was originally black and white and must have changed into colour sometime around 1959.

I preferred The Water Margin too, Gilbert. For those who don't know much about it, it was a Japanese serial drama about a band of Chinese warrior outlaws fighting against a corupt goverment warlord. It had a great musical score I remember and was shown in the early 1980s. Why they don't repeat it I don't know as the characters were interesting and the action was good.

I do vaguely remember it but, to be honest mate, every time I go back to watch an old fav TV prog they always look so dated and I end up feeling all disillusioned. rolleyes It's very depressing. There are a few exceptions, but they tend to be the out-and-out all-time classics: Yes Minister and Blackadder spring to mind.
G.
Both Monkey and The Water Margin have been repeated in the last couple of years on Chanell 4 in the wee small hours. Monkey still doesn't make sense, which, when watching it as a kid, it didn't matter, but as an adult it's a total head-f*ck.
As for Not The Nine O Clock News, it was OK at the time, but looking back on it now it just looks SO dated. Good comedy should never look dated. I use Open All Hours and Fawlty Towers as my examples. Still funny after 30 years, and you don't spend the whole show thinking "doesn't this look old now?!"
One thing to credit NTNOCN with though is that they helped give birth to the comedy geniuses of Chris Morris and Steve Coogan. They did a low budget radio show which was basically NTNOCN on steroids, and from that managed to influence british comedy for the next decade.

I don't have Sky. If anyone knows of repeats of Monkey - on any channel - please let me know xxx
Me me - I remember. No, it's not nostalgia, it was really funny, honest.
I've been watching The Mighty Boosh because I try to be trendy. I'm not laughing.

I saw that Monkey was on a few months ago and they showed episodes that had never been seen here before. But I don't recall The Water Margin being on and I'm an avid TV watcher who scours the Radio Times for every thing of interest! Maybe I did miss it then!
While we are on this nostalgia trip I always recall "The Adventures of Robinson Crusoe" which came out in the early 60s and has been repeated often. The music was haunting and has been available on CD. It was filmed I believe in the Canary Islands. It had such a powerful effect on me as a child and has left an impression. They don't make em like that anymore!

Ah yes "The Flashing Blade" a French made series set in the medieaval period (I think). It was screened around 1970 somewhere about teatime lol The theme music and title shots were very excitng with heroic lyrics sung in english and the actors charging on horses and fighting thier way out of tight corners. Not sure how it ended but I'd love it to be screened again.
As for Robinson Crusoe, well I think he managed to get off the island and live to tell the tale to Daniel Defoe, although his real name was Alexander Selkirk a mariner from Fife. The island he was marrooned on in now called San Fernandez Island 300 miles off the coast of Chile. As if you didn't know.....
Another series I'd like to see screened again is "Catweazle" staring Geoffrey Balydon.

I preferred him in Worzel Gummidge.
John Pertwee imo was / is the best Dr Who ever lived.
Una Stubbs as 'Ant Thally' (in the words of Worzel) spoit it for me though.
Can you remember 'The Adventure Game' which was aired over on BBC2 (A fore runner to The Crystal Maze)?
Worzel Gummidge is by far one of the most superior children's programmes to hit our screens.
I bought a video ("The Scarecrow Hop", "Worzel and the Saucy Nancy" and "Worzel's Nephew" - Pickles Brambles - remember him???) for my 5 year old daughter last Christmas - she loves it too!
I went back to the shop to get the other 7 videos and they were sold out!!! What does that tell you?
