I remember eggs tasting oh so yummy!, I usually buy the cheapest, but yesterday i bought .... orgainc and free range. You would think that these would taste heveanly .
but they did not . sad the colour was brighter but that was all ) Where has all the good taste from food. gone :( :( :(
"Mummy, can you take the top off... and don't forget the soldiers!"
Small boys... jumpers for goalposts... Marvellous!
biggrin
Playing "Curbie" (bouncing ball over the road to hit the curb on the otehr side...
Bacon doesn't taste the same anymore either... is all watery and stuff.. Eggs... well they are just spawn of the Devil they are...
Bread.... what happened to bread!!!
Look at these shoes, I've only had them a week and the heels worn through....
Tomatoes
I can never get any to taste of anything now. Grew my own last year.
On eggs tho I remember when I was younger when I was poorly always had eggs mashed with butter as a treat. Tried them like that when I was older and I was nearly sick lol sometimes best just to have memories.
Reversing this - I remember when Roast dinners tasted disgusting, couldn't understand why grown ups actually voluntarily piled loads of soggy veg on a plate, covered it in tasteless brown goo and ate it. Thing is, they always washed it down with loads of wine, we were stuck with water .... come to think of it, it was the introduction of wine in my life that suddenly made roast dinners delicious confused
Same thing with curry really .... could never work out why parents enjoyed that slop, that just seemed to incinerate my mouth ....... until the discovery of wine! Now can't get enough of it lol
sits pondering how many glasses of wine it would take to make liver and cabbage taste bearable, oh where is Einstein when you need him, must be a sum* in there somewhere
* what is that bluddy word!!!!! mad have just sat here for 10 minutes trying to think of it :x ... that word that means loads of random letters, numbers and symbols scribbled down, some with mini numbers above em. Then all addded together to make a phrase just as vague. Easy option is press submit on this post and it will come to me imeditaely evil
Formula!

Corrie, it is almost impossible to buy a decent tomato. organic 'vine-ripened 'are the best of a poor bunch. You've really got to grow your own, even then the variety is all important. There are a whole range of flavours and every colour under the rainbow. Many commercial varieties are insipid and bred for uniformity, size, quality (which in supermarket speak means no blemishes, no variance, long shelf life etc-taste is way down the list). Try growing 'Sungold', it gives hundreds of small, orange fruit of the most exquisite sweetness. 'Tigerella' is a stripey, tangy tomato-wonderful. 'Gardener's Delight' is a really old variety, very tasty, that will grow outdoors happily. I grow very old varieties like 'Bloody Butcher' and 'Harbinger' , but there are scores of varieties. Have a look at The Henry Doubleday Organic Centre, Ryton,Coventry, this summer, you'll see lots of varieties and different ways of growing them. Or, PM me and I'll give any info you need.
Mrs Fc, why don't things taste as good? One reason is that our taste does wane as we get older. I don't use much salt, as that tends , in my opinion, to reduce your ablity to taste. regarding eggs, see if you can find a local smallholder or poultry keeper that sells eggs at the door. Check they are Salmonella Free, which they have to be if they are selling them from a flock of (I think, without checking) of 25+. I love Bantam eggs-small but rich. Guinea Fowl eggs are great, and if you want an egg sandwich to last you all day, trya goose-egg banjo!
I'm passionate about vegeatables and pig-sick with the way the old varieties are disappearing. But I'll go 'off on one', so I'll go outside and do some digging (can't get Sarge to do any more)
Thanks Artificer I will pm later and get info xxxxx
Love Gardeners Delight tomatos - about the only thing I can grow. Then end up with so many I'm nearly sick of em by September lol
The eggs I get are from free range chickens that also get fed organic corn ... superb eggs. But the kids were a bit put out that our pancakes didn't look 'normal'. Instead of the pale creamy colour, it looked like they had big circles of sunshine on their plates  . Arti, whats the names of that chicken (not doing very well with words today confused ). Looks a bit like a minature dinosaur, but lays really big wonderful white eggs. Has been bugging me since I read your post!!!

Ahhhhh yes - Jubblies, Wagon Wheels, Lucky Bags, Sherbert Dips, Love Hearts, Bazooka Joes, Opal Fruits, Liquorish All Sorts, Flying Saucers, those lemony chewy thingies, Walnut Whisks :upset: :upset: biggrin :D
Modern food definitely tastes better: I found a 12 year old jar of strawberry jam at the back of my larder the other day... feckin orrible it was. I prefer the non-green, non-furry kind they have nowadays.
