er.... the short answer is no.
The main oft quoted reason for the clocks changing is supposedly them self same highlands....
If the clocks didn't change, it wouldn't get dark till 5 ish, but at the same time it wouldn't get fully light till getting on for 9 in the morning.
And ffs as freckledbird said don't go on about winter..... it's still summer for the best part of another 3 weeks, I'm sitting here writing this at am with the patio doors open, and I can here the crickets (ok maybe grasshoppers) outside, and besides in the winter I don't earn so much money and I get grumpy mad

stop it you're confusing me again............can some nice person please PM on the day that they go back (or forward) and let me know whats going on...............i've already had a panic attack from this thread that i'd missed it.........
redface
but for the time being i'm sticking to sarges idea of staying in bed an extra hour.........actually.......i've decided from now on all of us should spend an extra hour in bed everyday lol
Right - it's official (I've checked!)
Clocks go back
'Spring Forward' and 'Fall Back' - that's how to remember when to change the clocks. This year we 'Fall Back' early Sunday morning 29 October - so remember to put your clocks back one hour, officially at 1am or for some of us that will be before we go to sleep on Saturday night!

:smug: :smug: :smug: :smug: :smug:
I always think it's so much more romantic. Fair enough the weather is a little worse, a small blizzard now and again, dark rainy nights but just another excuse to cuddle up together and get the kids off to bed early :P
There's still the amount of hours in the day, I suppose it just depends how you look on it and how you make the most of it. It would be monotonous if it was the same all year round. And the added though of the party season approaching and that jolly guy in the big red suit coming ( no, not Marcuso wink )

Don't worry hun we'll all PM you and tell you the day has arrived to put your clocks forward
Lets leave the clock alone. We have GMT, the world looks to us for a standard. So why do we change to BST. If we want more light in the evenings, we should go to work early.

Surely we gain an hour
Fall = Back
so instead of it being 1am it will be 12 midnight
Also I thought the change happened at 2am - so as to put the clock back to 1 am
Am I just being a smart arse ???
An extra hour in bed is always good though
The clocks go back in Oct so you get an extra hour in bed
Sassy makes a note NOT to work a night shift that night confused
Stuff the clocks… don’t we have four seasons?
Is there not something called autumn which fits in somewhere between summer and winter?
A time of flame reds, golden glows, copper and orange.
A time of long shadows as the bright sun shines low thought trees.
When fallen leaves carpet the ground and beg to be kicked and scattered in the breeze.
A time for bonfires and illuminated faces in the flickering glow.
Do we not have that anymore?

Spring ( my fave season smile ) is evident every year but autumn seems to have disappeared altogether dunno There was a particularly impressive autumn a few years ago but it just seems to go straight from summer to winter these days. My tree in the garden seems to drop it's leaves overnight then winter arrives next day. Go figure confused
