I have an avid interest in anything unusual and I've always wanted to be proved wrong. I've been told I have a 'closed third eye' which according to spiritualists means I don't believe.
I've just been perusing this site on witchcraft and spells..

On here there are spells for money, marriage, love, lottery and court cases!.. if these were all true, then wouldn't we all be millionaires and wouldn't we all win court cases?
In view of the recent bank charge court cases, everyone is winning, perhaps a spell has been cast...
What do others think?
Frankly I dont believe....
As you say......We would all cast a spell to our own gain wouldnt we..
In mine Gordon Browns bollox would turn square, rot in each corner, fester and never fall off....
Yes for me you make your own luck in this world but not with spells. Hard work and self discipline seem to me to be the real way to prosper not relying on some chance thing happening or some words to affect/effect ??? your life.
Words are powerful but only if you let them be.
For my money its you who gets you where you want to be. No matter how long or hard the struggle is. If you don't get there its cause you never made enough effort or it was an unrealistic goal in the first place, given your ability and situation.
You're never going to be able to make snowballs in the desert.

I was always under the impression that a spell only worked if you wished good on others.
You can't use witchcraft for own personal gain.
I could be wrong, I usually am!!!

So my spell should work then....
Lots would love to see GB suffer a bit lol
I once had a girlfriend who claimed she was a White Witch but in all my time with her I never once witnessed a spell... unless that was the spell confused
I personally dont believe you can perform withcraft/spells on other people, but maybe you can for yourself, sometimes. What I mean is I think its all to do with the power of the mind. Positive thoughts, positive outcome. Not where the lotterys concerned though. Ive had positive thoughts about it since it first started and im still waiting rolleyes

i generally stear clear of answering this type of thread because of personal reasons/beliefs
its not quite that simple as spell for money making you a millionaire, there are always consequences especially with personal gain, it may be that you do a money spell and someone you love dies to bring you that money in way of insurance or inheritance.
if you cast a love spell would you really want that person that way, never knowing if they truly love you or if its just the spell you cast.
i generally stay away from spell casting unless its something simple like blocking out bad dreams etc.
and doing any bad spells against someone is a waste of time as you get it back 3 times worse.
my opinion on my beliefs

Expecto patronum is the widely used spell in our house thanks to HP! Translates as "I expect a guardian"
As some people know on SH I have recently bought a CD on how to sing and am training my voice.
Anyhow I was practicing my singing in the garden very early one morning (when no human was about) and a local cat stopped in her tracks 'spell bound' does that count?

probably thought it had found its mate bolt
im rather sceptial to be honest but as you will have seen from an ealier thread i have a close friend who is a white witch. now we not talked about it a very long time but when i give her the gift i brought her im sure we will chat more about it. if you can prove things to me i usually have to believe, but in this it does seem hard to prove, although i have just had done 3 different types of tarot reading and

 I agree.
I'm not gonna sit here and defend spell casting - I dont think there is anything to prove to anyone, you believe, or you dont. dunno Trying to convince people otherwise is pointless.
but some food for thought - much of 'spell casting' is based in positive thinking and mental attitude, about chanelling energy into very specific things, and, personally speaking, casting is a craft that acts in the same manner, and same principal as meditation, relaxation techniques or deep concentration - but you dont see many people knocking those! Just because some people choose to do it with, for example, bits of paper & candles, makes them the subject of ridicule and speculation, and very little understanding wink

Which of course you are more than entitled to hun, as is everyone else.
Personally I don't believe in spells, however I believe that people strongly believed witches existed years ago, I would love to know whether it was true or not.
Are white witches good witches then? or are they just people who deal in making people better in a more natural way?

again spot on
as usual the two lady’s have beat me to it and said what I was thinking
I would add that spell casting gose a lot deeper than just a few incantations chanted on a moonlit night
It takes years of study and mistake before you even get close to helping anyone
Do I believe
YES
I think reading between the lines, there is a lot to spellcasting than meets the eye (or rather my eye).. maybe it's not a case of having a 'shut 3rd eye' but rather a case of ignorance and not knowing much about the subject. Who knows, either way it would be nice to help the world as simply as that site predicts wouldn't it? :high-smile:
Spells and Talismans, do they work?
No! but then again?
If I were to cast a spell to help you in love, would it have any effect on the other person? No, but it may help build your confidence. That in it's self may help you in love. So yes by effecting your confidence the spell could work. So the answer is no and yes.
Could I effect your opinion of me, yes I do it each day. Can I make so one do what I wish, yes. The fact is we all place 'spells' on others. We are each effected by others, that is the real magic.

Earthy you do appear to know what ur on about hun!!
I believe that magic and spells are best left to those that really know what they are doing, i am sure that there are places and things that most folk just should not mess around with.
When i was younger i (as many others probs did) messed about with ouija boards and got interested in the whole witchcraft thing, and soon realised that i hadnt a clue what i was really doing and began to get quite scared when i spoke to people who actually did!
There is a guy who does the ghost walk of york who tells a really good, and true story at the end of the night about wishes and spells. he has a very old and steeped in wicker history walking cane that was given to him by a friend who told him that it had the power to grant wishes but like for everything in magic, it had a way to balance itself out for every wish it granted, a kind of universal equilibrium.
Anyway he tells you that he used to offer to let people touch the head of the cane and make a wish but warn them that it could also bring them as much bad luck as good if the wish was not universally good (ie not made for the good of others, and made for selfish reasons).
Very rarely it was that somebody accepted after this but one evening a woman said she wanted to make a wish for herself.
A year or two later the guy was doing the ghost walk again, and the very same woman approached him, looking very well to do, dressed impeccably etc, she told him she had won the lottery the week after wishing for money on his cane and she had gone to australia on holiday with some of her winnings.
He told her he was glad for her, and that she could make another wish but she recoiled when he held up the cane, she told him that she didnt make wishes anymore and held up her arm of which the very hand she had held the cane with was missing, it had been chopped of in a freak accident on her holiday in australia!!
needless to say, nobody made a wish that night lol
makes you think though!?
I used to be quite open minded about these things. Must have been the Gaelic paganism in me. “Beware the banshee” and all that shite. I even went to see a tarot reader and was blown away by how she really "got me". Well im a lot more pessimistic now.
I’m a massive fan of Darrin Brown. Believer or no in mysticism or organised religion you really should read his book. In it he revisits issues raised in his messiah special and two tv series’ in particular "Cold reading".
In the messiah tv special he wrote personalised readings for several ladies based on there drawing of the outline of there hand. Each of them was blown away by how accurately Darrin had “got them”. At the end of the show he gets all the ladies together to compare readings. There exactly the same! In the book he prints the phony reading in full. When you read it you will think it is you he is describing.
In his trick of the mind series a lady became controlled by a voodoo doll Darrin made that had her ring in it. At the end he showed her that the ring wasn’t in it, it never left her finger. She completely invested herself in the doll really having power over her.
And OMG the zombie video game mind f*$k stunt. If you have cable TV you can watch it on 4oD.
He's at the B’ham Hippodrome in May. I didn’t find out in time. It sold out very quickly. But I'll go down on the night anyway and queue for returns.
Friday x
P.S Does anyone want to take me to Strictly Ballroom at the Hippo. Its the last night this Sat. Been told its fantastic.
I'm not sure I believe or not because I don't have any information on which to base my decision.
I believe. I do healing, meditation and have had quite a few spiritual experiences that I can't deny. I love reading about the pagan way of life too and communing with nature.
For me it's not so much a belief as a feeling that it's in me in some way or it may be my Romany ancestry perhaps.
I could chat about this all night long to people and often have redface

I'm a believer of Science than Hocus Pocus!
I would love to believe in magic/mysticism/supernatural and all these sort of things. Life would be far more interesting (though i feel a lot more dagerous.
Concerning the natural world and the science explaining it. All is still in it's infancy. And so the magic is there just waiting for science to catch up.
Despite being day to day an illogical person, I've always been scientific in approach to things like this. However, after meeting DF and Earthy and people like them I've become ever more open minded.
Who knows whats out there. Some things just can't be explained by science......
For all those of you who talk about the belief of science etc (which is a perfectly logical, pragmatical and undeniable ethos to run ones life by)is it not just as believable to think that there are some things that cant be proven by science or have a test tube answer?
I mean what really IS science if not a rationalised and explained methodology for things that we previously have not understood, a meaning behind the magic perhaps?
I think that we have magic in and around all of us, what i mean is we live in a world of so many physical and natural wonders. if we really think about our lives and how we got here and the deeper things that we seem to just pass by in life without giving much thought to, who knows what wonders we could uncover or discover.
I myself am not religious in the sense that i am not christian, hindu, catholic etc but i believe in God, in whatever shape or form i dont know, but i am a deeper thinker (im not saying im hyper intelligent u understand lol)and i cannot put the wonders that we are surrounded by in the cosmos down to mere scientific chance. Everything we take for granted to be here on this wonderful planet is just too perfect for that, it is so perfect that it would almost be considered by the scientific community (if they put a little of that scientific objectivity they bleat on about into it :lolsmile to be DESIGNED for us!!
Is it coincidence that out of the 9 planets orbitting our own star the Sun (8 if you discount Pluto which has been named a satalite recently an has been removed from panet status poor pluto), we are the only one to be able to sustain life as WE know it? and that the gravity we have within Earths Electro Magnetic Field and the O2 to Hydrogen/CO2 Ratio is perfectly balanced to sustain the life systems that are here, more than this the earths atmosphere and ozone layer provide protection that ensures we are at a proportional distance ratio away from the suns Alpha and Gamma radiation rays which it filters out, to be able to live without being overly exposed to them (thanks Mother Earth ur the best!!) so well does Mother Earth do this in fact that if we were just 500 miles on a polar axis closer to the Sun(a miniscual amount in universal proportions), every living organism on earth would not be able to survive the Suns intense radiation.
I could go on and on about Earths little "scientific coincidences" (a term coined which apparently rationalises these things by the scientific community) but i would be seen as gettin on my high horse (as if i hadnt already yyyeeeee hhaaaa:lol:)
All im trying to say really is that although there is a place for science, there needs to be an open mind and a place for things that science cannot account for , im a pagan if anything so i would say that, im regularly found chatting to trees and birds (mostly the latter in bars) but hey we all have our cross to bear.
incidently for all of you scientists out, there do you believe in the existence of alien life forms? as scientifically the prob ability for this stands at a staggering .034% against there not being alien life forms out in our galaxy alone due to the amount of stars similar to our own Sun and the probability that these starts contain at least one orbiting planet!! Probability an Science eh!! wink

There is one thing that can not be proved, is there life after death? Since no one who has come back is available for interview we do not know if there is a 'here after'. We do know that peaple can see themselves and their surrounding as they 'die', but when is death? What is beyond the horizon is unknown. Therefore 'after life' is the subject of faith. Is it not said that a God without faith is nothing?
So have faith and believe in the after life, have faith and believe there is no after life or wait and see.
