Well as a women who loves speed but wouldnt want to compete
But i must say i am enjoying watching the grand prix and it looks like it is actually going to be a race for the championship
I do think there is a women's bikers and but not sure about F1 might have to look into that lol
wonders if i am strange as i do love speed but prefer being a passenger or pillon
Wayward
There was a german woman riding for darkdog in the 250cc championship about 4 years ago, and i think 1 competed in a race earlier this year.
I'll probably be slated for this, but IMHO women are not generally as competitive as men.(In my case this is definitely true, don't have a competitive bone in my body!) Also, certainly in bike racing, the level of strength required to physically muscle the bike around the track is incredibly high.
There was one loverley lady in the MotoGP series - she rode 250's I think - a few years back. Katja Poegnsen.
She wasn't around that long and I think that she really got the opportunity to race through her Dad. Saying that though, she still had to make the lap times to get a start.
I believe there is a lady driving in either the indy car series or cart series in the us and i think she is british. I saw a documentary on her on discovery channel but dont know how recent that was ill go look it up see if i can find owt.
Indy Car
Sarah Fisher
Mika Duno
Danica Patric (not british but raced here in her late teens in formula ford ect.)
None in the champcar Series
There were a lot of women pilots in the early days of aviation.
I`m a fully licensed biker too and I think Kittysin hit the nail on the head when she said that women arent generally as competitive. I never felt the need to compete although when I had a bike it was a fast 600cc sports bike and I could ride and keep up with the group of young guys I used to go out with and more often than not they would push their bikes to the limit.
I, also, liked being on the pillion better than on the front.
Send all them tennis players some senakot that should sort it :giggle:
DD
I think Davina Galitsa (sp?) was the most recent lady to compete in F1 back in the 60`s/70`s but not for long. One real fast lady, on water, Gina Campbell, a real tasty lady too when she was younger :P
I think its a case of men are generally better at motorsports than women ( Tina typing this too)
I dont belive that if they did find a woman who was better than any of the top motorsportsmen ie: Rossi or Schumaker that they wouldnt employ her and im sure most women who are into this type of sport are quite competive and am sure they wouldnt let anyone tell them they couldnt do cos they was a girl!!
There a several women speed hillclimbers and they are all bloody quick
For some reason no-one's mentioned Katherine Legge who is currently racing in the Champ Car series. She walked away from a massive accident at Road America last year complaining that her bruises would be visible when she wore her gown to the gala ball.
There are loads of women in motorsport especially at club level though not as many as men. As you climb the motorsport ladder very few make it regardless so you'd expect there to be even less women reaching the top.
Don't forget, despite what some would like us to think, there are differences between the sexes that do enable either to be more competitive in certain areas and it may be that in general, Motorsport is one of them.
