With all due respect Jags, as a newbie myself who has on occasion posted duplicate threads...there is no way I am sitting reading thru 37 pages of previous posts. So maybe now & again we will get mistakes as happens on all forums I visit.

Perhaps we should have a sticky for jokes etc in the Cafe. With a suggestion that only the jokes are posted - but not replies.
This could be archived every so perhaps only the last 3 months posts are kept on.
It would help prevent duplication as people would only need to read one thread and any independent jokes threads could be merged into this one and then deleted.
Do you think there is any mileage in this suggestion?

So.. instead you think it's OK to repeat the same old thing again and again, I don't. There is no way we all want to sit and read the same postings... mistakes happen, commonsense could prevent them here.
At least take SOME time to get know wha'ts happening, what's happened and what's been said...

Your suggestion is great Alex - and would only work if people could be bothered to read them!! I've already been told that people don't want to read through 37 pages of postings to find out what's gone before, so....

I do have to say that it is perhaps an unreasonable expectation for newbies to trawl through all almost 25000 posts in nearly 1500 thread,
perhaps a cursory glance at the last 4 or 5 pages.
would be a compromise...
I would be very surprised if it were the case that alll who joined after May last year have read back to the very beginning/
Of those that joined May 21st last year I suspect that there is only Mark around, and he does not read all posts ( eveidence his getting to a thread late.... as he has acknowledged on several; occasions.)
If it is noted that a thread is being repeated then all that is required is a mention to the initial poster and a ref to previous thread. but it does need to be bourne in mind that gven the increase in newbies they may welll have views and opinions on a given topic, that may or may not have been previously aired...
If peeps do not wish to re read then they need not read that thread....
I certainly do not bother with threads that do not raise an interest in me.

Grief - this is what I posted - note the use of the word 'PLEASE' (though it is spelt incorrectly in the original :D ). It wasn't an instruction, an order, a site policy, a telling off, a warning... it was PLEASE read... and I ended with a smile.
If people 'can't be bothered' then fine... but then don't expect those of us who are bothered to stifle a yawn. And actually Mark does read most things, maybe not as soon as the rest of us all.
