Definition of a pervert - according to one dictionary I've just looked up:
Pervert: n. Someone given to some form of sexual perversion
And in the same dictionary:
Perversion: n. Something perverted, especially in sexual behaviour
And again in the same dictionary:
Perverted: adj. Marked by perversion
And so we keep going around in circles! :!: (And this is not from a Victorian dictionary!) :!:
My favourite definition I've ever heard is (and I can't remember who said it):
Pervert: n. Someone of dubious moral background whose disgusting and lewd behaviour doesn't coincide with my own.
Anyone else come across odd/full circle dictionary entries or found a good alternative definition to a common word?
It's such a very abitrary and vague definition don't you think?

Dictionary definitions are precise. I personally prefer more 'off beat' explanations.
E.G. A Bachelor usually means a single man.
Where as I prefer:- A man who has failed in his duty to make some poor woman unhappy. rolleyes

I assume you refer to arbitrary from the word arbiter ? If so no problem we all get it wrong now and again.

Oh no, a drift into semantics! Actually, I meant arbitrary as in seemingly random or without reason, I think, or maybe I didn't. Or maybe I just shouldn't have had that extra glass of wine yesterday afternoon smile

I like the euphamisms that the press used to use, eg "flamboyant" or "well-dressed" for gay or "tired & emotional" for drunk ;-)

Or those used by estate agents e.g.
compact = tiny
period = needs total gutting
mature = falling down

Then there are those used in adverts .......
Young at heart = old
vivacious = crazy
loves socializing = drunkard
etc......
LOL
Just in case anyone has used them in their advert / profile etc. - I am only joking.
(what is it they say, when you're in a hole, stop digging ?)
