I don't consider myself to be a bad speller, but... some words are a pig and I can never remember which one means what.
Worsed one for me is...
affect/effect
I think affect is something that can happen and effect is how good it is, but still get confused and could be wrong now.
Are there any words that you get mixed up and annoy the pants off you?
Yes venus -- I had to look it up to remind myself -- probably easier if you put it into a context such as:
The cold wind affected the crops and the effect was to kill off all the corn
My personal thing is to sometimes mis-read things written on van, hoardings etc as I drive along - for instance I always misread "Shopfitters" as "Shoplifters"
( And women, of course -- I almost always misread them !!!)
always, always get caught out with invincible/invisible! stupid but I do!
Koo xx
Not really the same thing, but my dad cant say Hamilton Academicals! Used to have us in stitches....
...you had to be there
My cousin used to tell the story of the 3 billy goats gruff and the trowel, used to have us in stiches as well.
My biggest problem is speed typing. I type fast, I also correct my bad typing fast. LOL. I end up typing twice as many letters as I use - including the ones I go back and delete.
It's not that I can't spell - my Mother saw to that. But I can't type straight - left and right hands get confused.
I often spell 'the' either 'eth' or 'teh'.
The most annoying one is definition. It's a word I have to type many times in a day and can I buggery type it right!!!!! I refuse to make it an auto-correct, cos I'm trying to get it right - but it isn't working. pmsl.
Just remembered something my son used to say (he's 21 now). He couldn't say tomato ketchup. He always called it - mamo keckup. biggrin:D:D:D:D:D:D
I've just made a complete ass of myself by not previewing a pm before sending it - one letter miss-typed changed the whole sense of the pm - ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh redface
You replied to my letter then Cherry darling !! was that "Yes" instead of "No" then lol
:laughabove:
I do worry about if I ever get stung/bitten by one of them really poisonous spiders or a snake or something....
Like a good anecdote is really gonna save my life :undecided: Trying to think of a quick one, rather than the usual long winded garbage I come out with that will just prolong the pain confused
my son used to call elastic bands sellobanders we still call it that to this day!! biggrin

Be pretty bad damn luck for whoever I was describing biggrin
We have a family friend called Marilyn who is the godmother to both my girls. Unfortunately to this day the girls cannot pronounce her name right.
It always comes out as "Mallerin". Both of them do it identically even though there's 5 years between them.
