What are your "best" erotic films of all time? I'd like to start a small collection - probably no more than 10 - of the best that are commercially available. I've looked for the excellent "The Story of "O"" on video or DVD and haven't yet found it. I also saw the Henry Miller Anais Nin film, which I think was called Henry and June and thought that it was splendidly erotic. Last Tango in Paris was not so good. I thought. Secretary was good.
What I'm interested in is eroticism rather than the "there's a hole, so stuff something in it" brand of pornography, although I'm sure some pornography is erotic.
BTW, I did have a look to see if there'd been a similar thread posted previously but couldn't find one - apologies if this has been covered before, please point me in the right direction if it has.
Cheers - K
I got my dvd copy of "The story of O" off Ebay, but if you've read the book the film is awful sad
I read the book years ago. As film adaptations of literature goes I thought the film was quite good. It works as a stand-alone piece of art, IMHO

l'initiation d'une femme marie
a french classic!
What about "9 1/2 Weeks" still commercially available.

My favourite,love the "fridge scene"
Story of O is fairly easy to get hold of,i got a copy off amazon 18 months ago
The emannuelle films have always held a soft spot in my heart!
My first ever Hard-Core was the all time classic - Deep Throat. Memorable for two facts, Linda Lovelace's sword swallowing abilities and the fact that throughout the entire film, she never takes her bra off! confused
Second H-C film was Jolly Hockey Sticks, which was unique as a British hardcore production by some Soho porn baron. Never been able to see it for sale now, whreas Deep Throat and stuff from that era has a bit of a cult following.

Was that the one where her clit was (supposed to be) in her throat? If it is, I remember seeing it more years ago than I care to remember.
My fav is anything starring Mrs Cueball wink
Gotta say that - she's looking

That's the one!
All set up as a money laundering project for some drugs dealers or something like that...and turned into a massive money spinner.
ahhhhhhh Henry and June........beautiful, sensual and erotic film smile
Anais Nim;s books are pretty good too!

Being a film addict I couldn't help but want to add to this thread when I found it . . .
Some of the best erotic films have already been mentioned. Story of O is fabulous. It covers erotic in most ways - it's sexy to watch, entertaining, inspiring, and even educating. It's also specifically about eroticism!
Some of the scenes I've found most erotic have been in mainstream films. Bound featured the most believable lesbian relationship I've seen in the cinema and is sexy to watch (more in what's not said and done than in what is shown).
Out of Sight also impressed me as the sexiest chat up I've ever seen Clooney convincingly seduces Jennifer Lopez even though she's an FBI agent that knows she should be locking him up! Talk about talking your way out of and into things!
More recently In the Cut featured Meg Ryan's first nude scenes and what a revelation she was - totally transformed from cutesy to a very sexual woman and some of the best lovemaking acted on film (if you saw the uncut version that is wink ).
Then there's films made by people who had - for want of a better phrase - something of a healthy obsession with sex.
Russ Meyer took America by storm with his assertive, very sexual women, that kicked hell out of wimpish guys. Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! made people sit up and take notice - from there on he just showed more and more to see what he could get away with. They were different not because they were classy films, but because he turned things on their head (the women were always in control!)
In more serious cinema there was Pasolini with films like The 120 Days of Sodom, A Thousand and One Nights and The Decameron - all based on classics of eroticism in their own right.
From Japan, there was the beautiful In the Realm of the Senses that was sexy, explicit, and forced the censors to accept graphic scenes because of their artistic merit. It also contained practices that are generally under the "don't try this one at home" category, such as compression of the vagus nerve before orgasm.
Equally kinky, though not necessarily a turn on, were Crash and The Hunger. Interesting from an intellectual analysis of eroticism though.
Other excellent films that come to mind are Sex, Lies and Videotape, The Unbearable Lightness of Being, Boys Don't Cry, and Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down!
But no mention of erotic films would be complete imo without mention of the French genius Catherine Breillat, whose films (not always easy to watch, but good for serious viewing) are a rigorous examination of sexuality. With our more enlightened censorship laws of late, you can rent most of these relatively unscathed on DVD. Her main ones are Romance, Fat Girl, Sex Is Comedy, and Anatomy of Hell. Critics are evenly divided on whether she is a genius or a pornographer. Happily, she can, even with English as her second language, argue the differences between pornography, eroticism and art more eloquently than her detractors.
(End of longish post!)

Makes you squirm a bit when you imagine the guy from the original film trying to have a wank lol
the guy in this film couldn't either, but for different reasons wink
oddly they spent rather a lot on effects so it was quite good in that respect, but the storry was awful!
Yeah but if he had a cock instead of a hand he could give himself a BJ no problem! lol

Show me if you can, a Lesbian who doesnt think Bound is a good film !!!
How about Desert Hearts ?
Umm - have only seen the beginning of Desert Hearts. Got errr - distracted after that
he he me own ,its great having a digi camcorder and able to put it on dvd surprised
I agree totally about Bound (funny to think that Gina Gershon also appeared in the embarrassingly dreadful Showgirls a year or two earlier.)
Also: Betty Blue, Body Heat, Blue Velvet, Wild At Heart, and WR-Mysteries Of The Organism...and probably several I've forgotten.
Mike.
Great to see all the positive response over Bound - and to think that it was made by two geeky first time film-makers - just to prove to the studios they could be trusted with the money to make the Matrix . . .
Two very erotic (underground) films occasionally showing at festivals that I nearly forgot:
Thundercrack! (very pervy!)
Big old mansion on the hill. Strangers caught in a thunderstorm as their truck breaks down. Shown to a room in which they can change into some dry clothes (this room just happens to contain a wide variety of sex toys).
One of the characters turns out to be love-sick for a nymphomaniac gorilla he had an affair with when working in the circus. The owner of the mansion (whose husband's remains are pickled in various bottles in the kitchen) has a son who contracted a weird condition in the Far East that made his balls so heavy they crushed things (and sent him crazy).
Film also includes, quite deliberately, the odd 'porno' scene (why have pretend ones??). But just to make sure the audience can't settle into it unless they are open minded, they include a bountiful mix of hetero and gay sex (m-m & f-f) and a story keeping you on the edge of the seat.
If you like cult films this as a jewel. But see it only with very open-minded friends, or people you know very well!
Liquid Sky
I could watch this film again for the fabulous retro costumes alone. It's low-budget sci-fi about aliens in miniature flying saucers that home in on a chemical released in the brain during orgasm which is akin to heroin.
There's very little aliens-action, but lots of psychedelic photography, a cunning rhythm that sucks you into a Warhol-like world, freelove-devotees, artists, fashion designers, experimental musicians, OTT models, and convincing bisexuals. Liquid Sky is a gem (and while Bound contains seduction, Liquid Sky contains the most realistic lesbian sex scene I've ever seen - and the bi-girl I was with said it was 'how girls really shag' when they are hot for each other.) Sod the make-up unless is at least as wild as Ziggy Stardust, deposit gender attitudes in a bag at the door, embrace existence as rocket-fuelled experience as you tune in to Liquid Sky.
