What are your "best" erotic films of all time? I'd like to start a small collection - probably no more than 10 - of the best that are commercially available. I've looked for the excellent "The Story of "O"" on video or DVD and haven't yet found it. I also saw the Henry Miller Anais Nin film, which I think was called Henry and June and thought that it was splendidly erotic. Last Tango in Paris was not so good. I thought. Secretary was good.
What I'm interested in is eroticism rather than the "there's a hole, so stuff something in it" brand of pornography, although I'm sure some pornography is erotic.
BTW, I did have a look to see if there'd been a similar thread posted previously but couldn't find one - apologies if this has been covered before, please point me in the right direction if it has.
Cheers - K
I read the book years ago. As film adaptations of literature goes I thought the film was quite good. It works as a stand-alone piece of art, IMHO

l'initiation d'une femme marie
a french classic!
What about "9 1/2 Weeks" still commercially available.
i prefer the shoping for the bed scene
The emannuelle films have always held a soft spot in my heart!
I agree totally about Bound (funny to think that Gina Gershon also appeared in the embarrassingly dreadful Showgirls a year or two earlier.)
Also: Betty Blue, Body Heat, Blue Velvet, Wild At Heart, and WR-Mysteries Of The Organism...and probably several I've forgotten.
Mike.
Great to see all the positive response over Bound - and to think that it was made by two geeky first time film-makers - just to prove to the studios they could be trusted with the money to make the Matrix . . .
Two very erotic (underground) films occasionally showing at festivals that I nearly forgot:
Thundercrack! (very pervy!)
Big old mansion on the hill. Strangers caught in a thunderstorm as their truck breaks down. Shown to a room in which they can change into some dry clothes (this room just happens to contain a wide variety of sex toys).
One of the characters turns out to be love-sick for a nymphomaniac gorilla he had an affair with when working in the circus. The owner of the mansion (whose husband's remains are pickled in various bottles in the kitchen) has a son who contracted a weird condition in the Far East that made his balls so heavy they crushed things (and sent him crazy).
Film also includes, quite deliberately, the odd 'porno' scene (why have pretend ones??). But just to make sure the audience can't settle into it unless they are open minded, they include a bountiful mix of hetero and gay sex (m-m & f-f) and a story keeping you on the edge of the seat.
If you like cult films this as a jewel. But see it only with very open-minded friends, or people you know very well!
Liquid Sky
I could watch this film again for the fabulous retro costumes alone. It's low-budget sci-fi about aliens in miniature flying saucers that home in on a chemical released in the brain during orgasm which is akin to heroin.
There's very little aliens-action, but lots of psychedelic photography, a cunning rhythm that sucks you into a Warhol-like world, freelove-devotees, artists, fashion designers, experimental musicians, OTT models, and convincing bisexuals. Liquid Sky is a gem (and while Bound contains seduction, Liquid Sky contains the most realistic lesbian sex scene I've ever seen - and the bi-girl I was with said it was 'how girls really shag' when they are hot for each other.) Sod the make-up unless is at least as wild as Ziggy Stardust, deposit gender attitudes in a bag at the door, embrace existence as rocket-fuelled experience as you tune in to Liquid Sky.
