What a lot of interesting music people are listening to.....across the whole range of classical, particulalry a lot of modern and 20th century classical music to 60's 70's rock and more modern styles but where's the jazz. Ok I've seen Glen Miller mentioned, Louis Armstrong and even Dizzy Gillespie..but where would we all be without Charlie Parker..possibly the greatest musician of the 20th century in any genre.
What about the heart breaking, gentle seductive rhythm and swing of the bossa novas of jobim, louis bonfa et al and the sensual renditions of these by Stan Getz. The great jazz orchestras of Count Basie (April in Paris) and Duke Ellington, singers such as Billie Holliday, Bessie Smith and the incomparable Ella Fitzgerald.
For the more modern generation....try Tommy Smith, Andy Sheppard (even set prose from The story of O to a jazz piece), David sanchez, Courtney Pine, David Sanborn, Jay Beckenstein.
Oops..you may have guessed I'm a sax player!!
