I was running some checks today because chat was lagging like hell and as soon as you switch on a cam the whole chatroom becomes a choppy mess.
Test undertaken:
Windows 11 Latest (all ad blockers disabled as wanted to rule out blocking sentry app monitoring and analytics)
Background apps running - 1 tab for music streaming. OBS running to mix my 3 cams, Task Manager Cpu sitting at circa 20% with OBS taking 10% average
Edge Latest and Edge Dev - Open Chatroom -Task manager jumps up to circa 30% Turn Cam on and CPU spikes immediately to 75-80% and ram sitting at over 400mb for that 1 tab
Undertook the same test in Firefox latest to rule out chromium based browser issues, and as soon as you activate the cams FF hits 100% pinned on the CPU
Comparison
If i cam elsewhere the cpu barely increases by a few percent with the exact same setup so it appears to be the JS/code used for the chatroom / webcam integration that is not optimised correctly.
That however is only relevant to my setup YMMV which is why the modern web is both a wonderful masterpiece and a piece of trash at the same time lol
