I see that some users are having chat room problems so i am going to post some fixes that might help you along your way ( for current chat software only ).
Hope these will be of help to some
Internet Explorer 7
For internet explorer 7 to work successfully with chat on Swinging Heaven you need the very latest version or you will get problems when viewing profiles as the earlier versions had poup issues.
System requirements
I have tried this chat room on a few machines just to see how it copes and can assure you these specs are fairly good although it will be slightly different from machine to machine.
To run the current chat, you need...
with windows xp, at least a 733mhz cpu and at least 256 meg of ram
with windows 98 at least 500mhz cpu and 192 meg of ram
If your system isn't at least the above then it might be time to upgrade as you will find a lot of applications/games now days need more computer power than a short time ago
on xp - your cpu usage needs to be below 10% before even entering the chat or it meens you have a program somewhere using the cpu time thus slowing chat down.
on win 98 your cpu usage needs to be less than 40% from system start up this changes after a while with 98 as the cpu monitor only works well for about the first 1/2 hour then climbs and climbs
to find out xp cpu usage right click on task bar then click task manager then chose the "performance" tab and your cpu usage will be there, if its very high or on 100% click the "processes" tab then find out what program is using all the cpu time and sort it ( System Idle Process ) is normally high, this is normal, it only shows the unused cpu time.
If your ok with the above and still having problems then proceed onwards....
..... Webcam not loading.
on the window where you should see your own cam right click it then click settings then click on the webcam tab, in the pull down menu make sure your cam is chosen.
A common problem there is if someone has another device installed like a T.V card,k this can be chosen but won't actually load up in room.. thus giving the appearance of cam loading but never getting there.
..... mic not working
Some of the webcams with built in mics just won't work, in this case you will need to nip pound shop and buy a free standing mic.
If your mic is very quite, right click cam window, click mic tab, then adjust your volume level to a greater volume, also if this don't work go to internal volume in control panel and turn up mic volume there.
.... User list vanishing
Change chatroom then go back to where you was it should appear back, failing that, log out chat then back in again.
.... Script errors
sometimes these just happen, please bare in mind that although the chat room has got some bugs as the admin already know and are working hard for us to get a new chatroom, windows also has bugs to so its not always chat.
..... persistent Script errors or errors
What i would suggest is this...
Firstly because spyware can install browser add on's that conflict with the more legit browser add on's i would download install and run both "Spybot - Search & Destroy" and "Ad-Aware" ( find them on ) and check you don't have any of this trash installed ( it can come from installing all sorts of free programs on the net like free screen savers, Kazaa and so on.
Also i have found a couple of tool bars ( them ones that sit at the top of your browser that offer pop up blockers and so on ) can also cause conflicts so it might be an idea to uninstall any of them temporarily till you find where the problem is
Then if you still have the problems click "start button" then then "settings" then "control panel" find the "add remove programs" shortcut and click that
uninstall both "flash players"
reboot system
then download and install a fresh copy of flash from here
if your using internet explorer you will get the option to download the tool bar also, it might be a good idea to leave that at least until you have found where the problem is.
.... auth failed undefined
This is normally due to firewall settings being to high and not allowing the data through to the chat room servers to authenticate who you are.
if you have a firewall, try turning the settings to medium, if that still don't work then try it on low ( remember to turn it back to medium though once you have finished.
If you still get the same error then you need to turn of your xp firewall, to do this, do the following.
click your "start button", click "control panel" , click "network connections" here you should now see the connection you use to connect to the internet.
right click it then click properties, now click the "advaced tab" then untick the top box that says Protect my computer and ......... then click ok
Please remember, if you don't already have a firewall like zone alarm then you will need one once you have disabled xp's internal firewall as it will leave your pc open to the outside world
.... performance drop.
Because the chat room is fairly heavy for some of the older systems it might be wise to re-enter chat now and then, newer systems will keep the chatroom running smoother for longer but eventually degradation will happen, when this happens log out, close chat room then come back in again every now and then.
If performance drop happens quick on new machines ( say within 10 mins ) then there must be a problem somewhere on your machine,
you might need to take any or all of the following steps
Check your firewall security isn't to high, in extreme cases, having your firewall security set to high can slow the chatroom down as your firewall is working a lot harder thus taking resources away from chatroom, having you firewall set to high can also affect the loading of pictures on profiles to.
Although the most secure way to have a firewall set is at its highest, it can cause conflicts with many applications that need to access the internet so therefore setting it to medium can eliminate a lot of connection problems.
(( usb2 cams can cause the chatroom to run slower as it uses more cpu time to process the image ! ))
update your flash player
Scan for spyware with "Spybot - Search & Destroy" and "Ad-Aware" ( find them on )
Check in "task manager" for programs using all the cpu power ( remote hid is a terrible buggy program that gets installed with 90% of devises that use a remote control such as a T.V card )
There is many reasons why the chatroom might not work or work as well for some than it does others. I have even found that 1 of our 4 webcams slows the chat down ( usb2 cause the chatroom to run at about 1/2 the speed as it does if we use a usb1 cam )
Please if you have problems, don't go into a panic, there is always a way round it, the ratio of people in chat to the few that are having problems logging in is very small so its just a matter of finding out where the problem is.
You might find that chat is faster on another site, this is because SH uses its own software so speed will be different, on some sites other users will find the same chat runs slower for them that SH's chat does on this site, its all down to the system and the way you have it set up and devises.
I will add more when i can think of it
