Answering whispers

I have wanted to gob off about this for a while but I have been cautious about doing it incase I get a telling off lol

I find it so annoying when peeps answer all their whispers in the main rooom grrrrr. Its ok ocasionally as I myself put lol@wispa in myself but when someone is getting e.g. 20 peeps whispering them and then answers them all in the main chat, it is so difficult to understand the main room conversation. I have seen it on some occasions when its just lines and lines of answers to whispers, sometimes just the same person doing it! :fuckinghell: If someone is getting that many whispers, surely it is better to open their own room?????
Many a time, things have thrown me and I've trawled up the page to try and make sense of what was said only to find it still doesn't make sense even then. I know it annoys many people so I just make the effort not to answer whispers in the main chat as I dislike it so much myself.
Could I open a room with 'no answering wispas in main chat' in the title or is that not allowed?

You see I think that the problem lies with the whisperers not the person replying. Take yesterday for example. I was in a room and recieved lots of uninvited whispers but being the nice person lol

that I am I asked them to chat in the main room and when they didnt I did occasionally answer them in the main room, but only because it felt rude not to answer them. If people werent put in that position then we wouldnt have to do it.
Im sure you can open a room that has that in the title though :thumbup:

Some people dont like whispering and so answer all whispers (most of them uninvited I suspect) in the main room and usually this deters the whisperer.

Oh I understand posting the whispers to deter the whisperers but that doesnt bother me...Its when they are welcomed and then answers all of them in the room...just bugs me lol

and if they are getting whispers from 5 or 6 different people then its a plain nightmare to keep clicking on a name to reply then click another name to reply to summat else...
Poor chatters would have RSI in less than 20 mins :lol2:

I really sympathise with this as I find it irritating too. It sometimes feels like you've come into a weird surreal universe.
However I do understand if you've got more than one person whispering how difficult that can be.
Maybe this is one for the techies? How about giving us a second column that only contains the people we're whispering to? That way we don't get lost scrolling through 70 names, but also helps to organise and simplify the whole procedure.

Wish they'd give us some idea when this will happen. We've been waiting ages and it's all gone quite on the new chatrooms front.

No it misses the point.
The fact is that the current system isn't practical. What if you're one of the whisperers but the other person isn't able to scroll through the list quickly enough because he/she is also whispering to someone else?
It's difficult for all concerned not just the person observing the strange messages.

No it misses the point.
The fact is that the current system isn't practical. What if you're one of the whisperers but the other person isn't able to scroll through the list quickly enough because he/she is also whispering to someone else?

Well that's me. I reply to all uninvited whispers in open chat, a clear message that should someone decide it is OK to whisper me without even saying hello in chat first, that it's not.
If they ask and I accept, I reply in whisper.
If I get too many whispers at one time, I ask them to all chat in main room.
And when I do reply in open chat I always add the ID first so people know who I am addressing.
Sorry but I'm not stopping doing that for anyone, it's the uninvited whisperer's that should take note.
Blimey it's a long way down my my high horse today wink

I didn't mean you personally Pink. Like I said, I do it myself occasionally. Just that if someone is getting an exceptionally large amount of whispers (lucky buggers!! lol

) and answers them all in the main chat, it can be difficult for the rest of the room to follow the conversation.
I don't get alot of whispers myself...I just tend to talk crap in the room generally but I know if I was getting that much attention through whispers and welcomed it, then I would open my own room.

I think the best option is to get rid of the "whispers" full stop.
Not only will it stop confusion and people getting annoyed...
It will get rid of the annoying disrepectful idiots!!

Worry not Betty, didn't take it as directed at anyone. And I totally see your point. However, I get quite a few whispers each time I go into chat, and shed loads if I go on cam, and I have no problem with them per se, as they are part of the chat room, but I demand respect and politeness in real life so look for the same in the chat room.
As for opening your own room, I wouldn't welcome that at all, I go into chat to chat to people in the main room, get to know people, my theory behing answering whispers in main chat is so that the people who 'offend' recognise they are getting no where and will eventually stop. They also see the people who ask get an acceptance and again eventually will learn.
Again just my way of doing things ( I am a trifle anal at times redface

), each to their own and all that. :wink: :lol2:

Anyone who remembers the good old days when SH had a proper chatroom (mIRC) all whispers opened in a seperate tab and it was a sinch to use..

Which is pretty much why the new version has tabs, it should as you say be a sunch to use, but as with most things in life we won't be able to please everyone.

You're absolutely right. Using the windows options is even more time consuming, and a very messy solution.
I still think having two columns is a workable option. In the first column we could have the current list of people in the room. Then in a column next to this would be another column with all the people we are whispering to.
It may not be ideal but I think it's better than what we've got.

What you suggest isn't any different to having tabs at the top with names of people whispering, tabs have one big advantage in that with one click they can be deleted.
