I just got a new PC with a widescreen display :bounce: so now I can see all five chatroom cams on one screen! The trouble is using that screen size means they're a bit too small so I've had to adjust the resolution which means I lose one off the side. As I'm not a big chatroom user it's not a huge problem, but I was wondering how many cams the hardened chatters use.
Do you tend to stick to one? Do you like to see more at once? Do you take advantage of the full five? If you do, is it occassional or all the time? Just being nosey really. ;-)

How many cams do you use?

I tend to look at the cam of the person I'm chatting to, and anything more than three cams looks like overkill. In general one cam is more than enough, but depending on the conversations you're having you may want two or three.
However five cams are way too much, and it seems it's part of the cause of the constant freezing in the chatroom. The extra traffic, resources, is causing an overload that causes huge delays in just ordinary chat. So if many people are in a chat room the whole thing becomes almost unusable.
Also, as already pointed out, most people don't have large enough monitors to make five cams a practical option. The extra work required to constantly move between the cams, if you've got a normal sized monitor, doesn't warrant whatever gains you're supposed to get from it.
I'm also concerned that the strain on resources may be connected to people 'activating' all five cams simply because they can. This situation is causing, rather than relieving, many problems.

I must admit the standard member limit didn't cross my mind, but judging by the responses so far you're probably using about the same number as everyone else ;-)
And because I don't go on cam (oooh... I can now 'cos new lappy has one built in! :shock: ) I haven't experienced the 'playing to the room' thing, but I can see why having multiple cams would be useful to gauge people's reactions though.

If I set my screen to it's 'optimum' resolution of 1920x1080 I get all five plus my cam box, and still have a bit of room left over. Trouble is the cams are a bit small and you need binoculars to see the text!
As soon as I change it down a step (1360x768) I get just under five cam boxes (mine and four others) or, like you Ian, I can slide to the right to lose mine and see all five others.

My resolution at work is at 1920 by 1200 and the cams are okay, I can see all five and my own and there's probably space for a sixth but I have a 25 (ish) inch screen at work. 
Clearly I only looked at the cams in the name of research this morning!
Generally I don't. At home I tend to watch one or two people, and only when I know them for the laughs and facial expressions. I've no interest in watching strangers having a wank, that's what redtube is for.
I also like having the chat box small so I can potter about doing other stuff so it doesn't really matter to me about the quality or how many pics I can see. Five cams is excessive for me but I'm sure other people like it. :mrgreen:
