Better to be thought a fool than to open one's mouth and prove it beyond all doubt!!
As a relative newbie, I try and make humourous comments and try and be nice to people, especially if some people are being rude about the people on cam (Which seems to be on the rise)
Other than that, I try and see what people are like and try and cotton on to what people are saying and try and join their conversations.
Some rooms do seem to have a kind of "clique" about them, but if you look past that and join in where possible it is a usually fun place
They could well be just reading profiles or enjoying the chatter. My other half quite often justs talks to friends in whisper in chat room because he types slow and cannot keep up in main room, they don't mind him chatting there so it's all ok.
I hate the word lurkers it sounds so seedy, it could be some people are not confident in typing fast in chat room or typing at all!
My reasons for being more of a lurker than a chatter in the chat-rooms bear a strong resemblance to those given by cu3b4ll.
Many's the time I have started a conversation with people only to have it interrupted by dozens of cheesy chat-up lines &/or blatantly insincere compliments... at that point I usually withdraw from the conversation.
Just a thought though - if it was compulsory to chat in chatrooms can you imagine trying to follow the conversation of 80 different 'chatters' at a time?
Been here on SH a long time now, since late 2003 according to my full profile and basically just like to browse and see what I am missing...
Until I post this I won't be sure but I think it might be my first forum participation...
seeing as this is one of the longer running threads in here, thought I'd give it a bump for others to see and reply to.
