I have noticed more recently that the chances of being actually acknowledged when entering a chatroom have diminished greatly. I did used to think this was mainly down to people either being engrossed in their own chats, whispering to each other or being plain bloody rude.
I have come to the conclusion that part of it must be because we can now enter as many rooms as we like and therefore the people who are on a list in any given room, might actually not be paying any attention to that room as they are also logged into other rooms.
Whereas in theory it's a nice facility, in practice it stops the usual good chat happening.
I have been into several rooms today, and although there are always the ones where people tend not to say a lot and need some encouragement, most of them were full of people who didnt say a word. I did notice quite a few people in other rooms at the same time, and a couple of them on cam too in more than one room.
Don't we think its sensible to go into one room to chat and if its not what you are looking for, then move on, rather that being in several rooms at once, and saying nothing in any of them.
Just a thought, comments from other members would be welcome.

folk dont say hi to us cos they dont like us lol
I personally have a low attention span, so am frequently in 2 rooms, on msn and texting at the same time. This works for me because my friends are all over different servers, and I use different rooms for different things, some for chat, some for fun.
If it went back to one room I would end up bouncing all over the site and probably using msn more, I don't like the current whisper system at the moment as I am quite clumsy and seem to whisper the wrong person, or drop a very smutty one across the room.

we think that some rooms are just plain ignarant
Is the ability to enter several rooms a new facility or is it a bug that the s/w geeks haven't put right ?
I checked this with those in the know, and I've been reliably informed that it's a "feature". There was a limited capacity on the older servers so the restriction was put in place to preserve stability and to allow everyone a chance to get into chat. The new servers have far more capacity so the restriction was lifted. ;-)
Thx Cubes.
And I agree with Lost FWIW.
I thought something different had happened, might be why I am finding the chat rooms a lot of the time now dull and boring.
I have been opening a room for ages now for a laugh and I and the regulars that come in talk to anyone. But we have found of late that there are many there that might not be there but elsewhere I find stupid.
I think it will make me think twice about going on cam to be polite and encourage others all to talk and to get a blank from most.
Gone seem the days where 75% of the room all chat together these days we are lucky to have 10% chatting.
What a shame!
