He invented the limerick
Of all his achievements, the finest.
Seriously. In the mid 13th century he wrote a prayer (in Latin) which went
Sit vitiorum meorum evacuatio
Concupiscentae et libidinis exterminatio,
Caritatis et patientiae,
Humilitatis et obedientiae,
Omniumque virtutum augmentatio.
The English translation isn't so catchy
Let it be for the elimination for my sins,
For the expulsion of the desire and lust,
For the increase of charity and patience,
Humility and obedience,
As well as all virtue
