If you are an American, today you can be proud to be so.
I watched the whole of Barack's speech in Cairo mending fences with the Muslim communities.
What a performer!
The prospect for peace around the world must have improved by this.
What do you say?

Until America stop everything with Israel, then I cannot see too much of a way forward.
The USA want to police the world and Brown wants to save it. lol
Obama is a decent guy, but in the eyes of many.....still an American.
Thanks for the heads up GNV.
More than words is my first thought but then words of compassion and understanding are a big step.
For someone who is an admirer of the seemingly lost arts of rhetoric and public speaking, he's a refreshing change from most politicians.
I think it's more than just the speeches though; I feel like there is hope in his willingness to distance himself from the previous regime and his fresh approach to international relations.
We'll see, I guess.
I Know Obama is still on his honeymoon, so this is going to sound a bit harsh, but there was'nt much meat on the bones of the speech.
Also, it was reported on C4 news that at one section of the speech he critiscized France's ban on the Islamic veil in public institutions etc. This law is popular amongst the majority of French, including moderate muslims, and was partly done to counteract gangs of muslim male youths "thugging - out" Algerian & Morrocan girls of muslim descent, so I think he was well out of order critiscizing this and pandering to fundamentalists.
Talk is cheap, let us see if he really can sort out a homeland for Palestinians that won't be bulldozed and bombed by Israel. If he can do that then he deserves a big medal.

I think the Israelis are on notice.... Obama will have no truck with them if they fuck up.
apart from saying that the palestinians have a poor deal, his words sounded great but there was no real material policy content. obama is backed by wall street as tory bliar and gordy were and are backed by the finance and banking interests of the city of london. what did obama say or do when phosphorus was reigning down on the palestinians in gaza ? why has obama increased u.s. troop levels in afghanistan ? why has obama defered closure of guantanamo for 12mths? why did obama increase the support of the u.s. banking industry from 750 billion to 12 but pushed chrysler and g.m. into administration and is proposing cuts in medicare and social security ? obama is a puppet of wall street, same old, same old, but he sounds good !
obama is definitely a showman...loved the thing he did during his speach I don't know where, when he wrote a note for a child's teacher, because she was missing school to watch his speach...
pure thinking on his feet and showmanship
Given that I've just replied in the contrary to your views on the Iran situation, and comparisons to the UK election system, I now discover common ground. Yes, Obamas speech was inspirational and I believe a lesson in humble, but firm and even handed leadership at the pinnacle of democracy. Not something I thought I'd ever see myself typing a few years ago...
