The Al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden is dead and his body in the hands of U.S troops. After ten years of searching finally a page of history is, with luck, being turned. What a coup for President Obama too. Nice that it comes as he steps up his game in the coming political seasons in the U.S
I think this is good for the whole world and will be of relief not only to the west but to the Muslim countries and Muslims around the world.
Good news say I
It won't be long before another, equally deadly if not more so, fruitcake comes on the scene waging war on innocent people.
The closing of a chapter, yes. The potential opening of another, absolutely.
I also just hope that this doesn't give the Americans what they will believe to be a moral right to seek out and destroy Gaddiffi who they also believe was responsible for killing innocent Americans. They've already made one bungled attempt on his life allegedly killing his youngest son and family.
If he is dead, it will stop the politicians from making some shabby deal in the future when they decide that a former enemy can be an ally.
Ah, someone marked the ending of the longest game of hide and seek in history, before I did.
He'd have died of old age before long anyway, wouldn't he lol
I can't help but think he'll now be made some sort of martyr. Otherwise, what has actually chnaged?
Standby for the backlash!!!
Its bound to come a wave of bombings or something...
If he had half a brain he would have already arranged a succession plan. We may see little difference in the level of attacks.
Has it really?
Eye for an Eye....and all that?
Not sure myself that I would call it justice. Seems to me that he got out quite easily without having to answer for anything. I also agree with those that have alluded it to it above, he is sure to have had a succession plan and I fear the worst is yet to come but hope I'm wrong.
I'd suggest OBL was more of a figurehead these days rather than a commanding general.
More a Hirohito than a Yamamoto if you want a WW2 analogy.
But always good to see a bad guy get it in the end.
Any attacks on the West which occur would have been going to happen anyway and will just now be "in revenge for the killing of OBL".

...........I`m sure the Americans can use this as an excuse to invade Pakistan.

Have they got oil ?

Well Gulsonroad won't be able to rant about him living in caves any longer lol
On a more serious note, I think you are right, nothing will have actually changed. I'm sure he/they will have long since made provision for this eventuality and there will already be a new leader.
Westerners will have to be ever more vigilant upon their travels.

My mate went to Indianapolis a couple of years ago for work. There was a gunfight (gang related) outside the hotel. I think anyone travelling in any country (including this one) is in far more danger from the local hoodlums than from any imported or home-grown terrorists.
Statistically I don't think death by terrorism is even in the top 10 of travelling risks. But when we act like we are in constant danger, we ARE terrorised, and the terrorists HAVE won.

You are correct, there are risks to travellers everywhere they travel. It doesn't matter whether terrorism is statistically in the top 10 travel risks or not....the risk from terrorism will now have been heightened and it can't help but to be vigilant. We may well see more of the type of attacks that occurred last week in Marrakech.
BTW, this is the advice from the FCO
"Following the death of Al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden we advise British nationals overseas to monitor the media carefully for local reactions, remain vigilant, exercise caution in all public places and avoid demonstrations, large crowds of people and public events."

But he used stealth tactics Dave- he named his house LinBaden Terrace wink
and so the recriminations begin. "How on earth did OBL manage to live in Pakistan for so long undetected?" "The Pakistani Government must have known about it" etc etc.
The plain fact of the matter must be that it could equally well have been a nice large secluded house in the suburbs of West London or the outskirts of New York (apart from the fact the weather conditions might not have been so pleasant).
If someone wants to remain undiscovered and they are careful enough about it - as OBL seemed to have been - anything is possible. I doubt we will ever know the truth about the intelligence leading up to his discovery but DC and BO must be sighing some relief that it was not in their back yard

bollocks. there is no way that people high up and pretty low down didnt know he was there. my only surprise is that no one shopped him earlier.
Maybe this is a valid reason...

You just gotta love the whole media / White House circus over the Osama Bin Laden announcements. Remember when we were told we had to go after these dangerous terrorists so we could be safer? Remember when we were told that the terror alerts had to be put on orange and red because Bin Laden was "living in a cave" and plotting to bomb us?
Well now that the White House insists they've killed Bin Laden, where's the celebration of freedom and safety? Why aren't we firing the TSA and reversing the Patriot Act? Isn't the danger now over? Can we bring bottled water back on airplanes again?
Instead, the government now says that killing Osama Bin Laden makes America MORE dangerous because his cohorts might seek "revenge."
Huh? Wait a sec... so killing Bin Laden makes America less safe? Wasn't the entire sales job on this supposed to be that killing Bin Laden would make us more safe?
Check out the logic here: George W. Bush said if we don't kill Bin Laden, we won't be safe. Obama says now that we DID kill Bin Laden, things are even less safe. So apparently, according to the U.S. government, killing them or not killing produces exactly the same result. We're all in danger, they insist, no matter who they kill.
Do you see the total perpetual war con job America has been sold over the years, spanning multiple presidents? There are no conditions under which we can go back to being "safe and secure," you see. There is no list of outlaws that can be taken out so that the government announces "There, now we're safe. All the bad guys are gone." Nope, instead we get this perpetual war setup that keeps the munitions manufacturers rolling in dough while our soldiers keep coming home in body bags. It is a complete con job, and it's all being used to strip away our constitutional rights and freedoms, too.
Anyway, all this is just one more sign that our world has gone completely and utterly mad... and the whole thing is entirely unsustainable.

Makes you think, doesn't it.
So tell me brucie, why didn't they just keep it quiet? dunno

in my opinion pakistan new. It reely is as simple as that. Cameron got into trouble i believe by insinuating that they should do more.

pakistan are no friend of the west and to think they have nuclear wepons. scary .
