Both my 16 year old daughter and I find this rude, a bit like watching the telly when you have guests or chatting on the phone . I can see that it`s not quite the same but still !
Is this the future ? Will we all sit around eating while absent friends and relatives are other wise located ?

wouldn't happen in my house the only thing on our dinner table is the dinner and occasionally Liza redface

I use it for work and proves very useful, other than that I wouldn't bother.
I do however use Viber lol

Microsoft bought back in 2011 $8.5 billion!!) and you can now merge your Windows live contacts (MSN) with your contacts. It looks like both will merge completely in the coming months ahead with Windows live (MSN) being "retired" as both services use a shared architecture.

I use to stay in touch when I am away and it has transformed my business. I speak to Clients all over the world and the cost is now insignificant whereas up until quite recently my phone bills were a significant cost to the business. Personal use - camera on, business use is just a telephone replacement.

I love ! It allows me to speak to my mum and "see" her regularly in the week (she's living in New Zealand). And my dad and other relatives..And there have been times when she's called me on while all my other aunties and cousins were there visiting so I can be part of the gathering..priceless.

If business based, for 'enterprise' installs of Windows then their Lync software is very good with single or multi-user conferencing including IM ability, call (via VOIP or dail in), screen sharing, file transfer, etc. Much better than their OCS (Office Communicator System) and with people all over the country and beyond, plus external suppliers it's a boon.

Lync will be no more in a couple of years. OCS was a cobbled together bolt-on for Exchange from a company Microsoft bought.... I would expect the core engine to be replaced with 's offering very soon.
As for itself, its simply a culture thing Im afraid. I can have breakfast with my friends in New Zealand, conduct business meetings and it simply transfers emotions and facial meaning better than a phonecall. Also handy for tours of hotel rooms lol.
It also allowed several people from the states to "take part" in my Dads wake in the UK and meet some of the guests.
As for thinking it rude to essentially have another person at the table.... well unless you would have been equally offended if she was actually sat there, then its bonkers Im afraid.

I like my privacy too much. If I were invisible it would be great. Actually I think I am invisible. The only time people notice me is when I do something stupid... but I like it that way (being 'invisible' I mean not stupid) ;)
