The Comet cometh

Many years ago I recall the story of a comet which could very well colide with the earth and life on the planet would cease as we know it.
Years later and 2 more sightings it was worked out that whilst in astronomical terms it would pass close to us it was not on a collision course with us. It will however provide a light show never before experienced by earths inhabitants, or so they tell us.
It first has to survive passing close to our Sun (on the 28th of this month) no easy task for a rock made of minerals and ice.
If it survives, will you watch the comet pass the earth, apparently the most informative description we have of what to expect is best described in the book/move Day of the Triffids, a spectacular light show from the trail of "dunno what" that follows the comet. Could this be where the story came from, will we all be blinded if we watch.
The comet itself is only the size of Manhattan, but the sun is already having an effect on it and the gases that surround it are heating up and creating a gas mass the size of the USA. (it is these gases that will supply the magnificent light show) the main gas is carbon dioxide but there are many gases and each creates a different colour which in this instance should provide a colour scheme involving the whole colour spectrum.
Described as the comet of the Century it might be too good to miss, (expected here in January 2014)it is after all a comet that we would only ever be able to see once, not only in our lifetime but in everyones lifetime, after this visit it will never return, such is it's orbit.
Some are already very excited by the prospect of seeing it up close and personal, I am sure Sheldon will experience his first orgasm and even Koothrappali will have fun.
and here was me thinking COMET had closed down and gone bust !!!!!
You just can't get the word bust out of your mind
Well that is probably the worst post I have ever made and I have done some I regret you all know that.
Just checked the update on Comet Ison
11th December 2013
Sun 1 - Comet 0
The comet didn't even survive the Suns Power until later this month when it would have been safe, it's earliest contact showed that it wasn't the all time threat it could have been, All that reasearch into ICBM with nuclear warheads that could be used to fend off comet attacks should have been put into using the Sun as a shield lol.
So endeth the greatest spectacle the earths inhabitants would ever see and now will not see, RIP Comet Ison you will be remembered by all Astronemers, Scientists and Nerds :lol
:
Lets be fair, it's not the first time you've posted without knowing the facts.
awwww now that's harsh true but harsh in this case the facts were right but out of date with circumstances, you know I rarely see the news, never read papers, it just takes a little longer for things to filter through to me.

Bless you for trying! It would more than likely have been cloudy that night anyway.
Does that mean its not happening?????????
Yes the comet is no more, at least not as a comet there are lots of bits flying around and some pockets of gas but now it's the size of a football pitch not the size of Manhattan and therefore will not create the light show it was thought to be going to produce, the power of the sun still reigns supreme, for now at least lol
Actually don't think the comet even made December, failed its trip round the sun at the end of November, which was gutting for me, even had reminders set on my phone for the best days (nights) to catch it.
That is probably true, back in November Astronomers lost track of the comet and thought it dead but then it re-appeared briefly though much smaller than previously recorded and they hoped it had survived but then in December they declared it officially destroyed by the Sun's heat and radiation.
Don't want to take this off at a tangent but there seems to be growing evidence (not collected by me you understand) that we have water on earth because we have been hit in our history by one or more of these dirty snow balls. If this did happen, it is possible that some of the chemicals within the comet reacted with others on earth and formed the first primitive bacteria....... Which is nice.
It is indeed a theory discussed in nerd circles all the time, most go with the theory that the large asteroids which are reduced in size by the heat they go through entering our atmosphere hit the earth all the time, that the ice and water content of these asteroids is the first thing to go during that journey, we have nothing to say that in the past one of those larger asteroids didn't bring something with it which now exists on earth and is accepted as a standard earth item, in fact don't the big bang theorists believe that we and everything on the planet started off this way.
ok so Comet Ison won't pass close to earth and there are no reports that a huge asteroid is going to hit us anytime soon.
But I have a theory, I know that the earth is being orbitted by loads of space junk, the orbits of which deteriorate and they crash to earth now and again, most of the content burns up in our atmosphere, but some gets through.
My theory involves the stuff we dump in space returning to earth, for years now astronaughts have been dumping dump in space whenever they need to go. What if it all joins together like the bits did that started the universe and the planets, what if earth gets hit by a huge turdoid ?
Worse what if aliens attempt to visit us and crash into a giant turd on their way, would they see this as an act of war and destroy the earth ?

They'd probably take fright at the size of the beings that could produce such a giant turd and bugger off back whence they came! wink

I have poo pooed any idea of aliens for now, my fear is all this cloud computing storing everyone's files my fear is the clouds could burst one day and cover us in so many files we will all drown in them.

yea i was hoping to get myself under the lesbian nympho section of stored files when this happens rotflmao :rotflmao:
Edit: and welcome back to the forums you ol sort kiss

Big question must be, if the super turd did survive re-entry, where would you want it to land?
An area where there is no living creature is the obvious and correct answer but considering it will still be fresh and smelly there must be someone or area you want to see hit by an extra terrestrial arseteroid?
Personally, Boxing day, Melbourne as the Australian team take the field.

& the latest discussion is on whether life from earth made it to Mars. Theory that one of the big hits the earth has taken over the years may have ejected material that made it to other planets. The problem now being that if they find evidence of life on Mars is this contamination bought from earth or genuine evidence of life.
