I love Wise words and Quotes, I was talking to someone recently and they said
"Be careful how you treat those on the way up, as it is them that you will meet on the way down.
Do you have any you would like to share?
Winston Churchill
"I may be drunk, Miss, but in the morning I will be sober and you will still be ugly. "
and, given some of the topics recently debated in this venerable place...
"The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter. "
History will be kind to me for I intend to write it. Winston Churchill.
The broccoli says 'I look like a small tree', the mushroom says 'I look like an umbrella', the walnut says 'I look like a brain', and the banana says 'Can we please change the subject?
How about: "It is unwise to have a battle of wits with an unarmed combatant" lol
Oooooh, profound quotes thread is it? Forgive me, this is gonna be a long post but lots of stuff I find particularly instructive belongs here so I'm just gonna splurge a few out. Oh, and I have lots more where this came from! lol
Quote by HH The Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso
Never give up
No matter what is going on
Never give up
Develop the heart
Too much energy in your country
Is spent developing the mind
Instead of the heart
Develop the heart
Be compassionate
Not just with your friends
But with everyone
Be compassionate
Work for peace
In your heart
And in the world
Work for peace
And I say again
Never give up
No matter what is going on around you
Never give up

Quote by Khalil Gibran
Advise me not, my blamer, for
Calamities have opened my heart and
Tears have cleansed my eyes, and
Errors have taught me the language
Of the hearts.
...
Go from me, for you are taking away
Life - giving repentance and bringing
Needless words.

Quote by Robert Anton Wilson
Nobody sees the obvious, nobody observes the ordinary. There are more miracles in a square yard of earth than in all the fables of the Church.

Quote by Henry David Thoreau
Why should we be in such desperate haste to succeed, and in such desperate enterprises? If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer.

Quote by Fyodor Dostoyevsky in The Brothers Karamazov
Above all, don't lie to yourself. The man who lies to himself and listens to his own lie comes to a point that he cannot distinguish the truth within him, or around him, and so loses all respect for himself and for others. And having no respect he ceases to love

Quote by Michel de Montaigne
He who establishes his argument by noise and command, shows that his reason is weak.

Quote by Milan Kundera
Anyone whose goal is 'something higher' must expect someday to suffer vertigo. What is vertigo? Fear of falling? No, Vertigo is something other than fear of falling. It is the voice of the emptiness below us which tempts and lures us, it is the desire to fall, against which, terrified, we defend ourselves.

Quote by Jean-Jacques Rousseau
The first man who, having fenced in a piece of land, said "This is mine," and found people naïve enough to believe him, that man was the true founder of civil society. From how many crimes, wars, and murders, from how many horrors and misfortunes might not any one have saved mankind, by pulling up the stakes, or filling up the ditch, and crying to his fellows: Beware of listening to this impostor; you are undone if you once forget that the fruits of the earth belong to us all, and the earth itself to nobody.

Quote by Jonathan Huie
Stop holding on to the past. Release your regrets about whatever you may have done or failed to do that turned out poorly. Forgive others for whatever they may have done or failed to do that cause you harm. Declare today to be a new beginning. Let go of the past and move on with creating a joyful new future for yourself

Quote by Antoine de Saint-Exupery
I have no right, by anything I do or say, to demean a human being in his own eyes. What matters is not what I think of him; it is what he thinks of himself. To undermine a man's self-respect is a sin.

Quote by Vasily Grossman, Life and Fate
I have seen that it is not man who is impotent in the struggle against evil, but the power of evil that is impotent in the struggle against man. The powerlessness of kindness, of senseless kindness, is the secret of its immortality. It can never by conquered. The more stupid, the more senseless, the more helpless it may seem, the vaster it is. Evil is impotent before it. The prophets, religious teachers, reformers, social and political leaders are impotent before it. This dumb, blind love is man’s meaning. Human history is not the battle of good struggling to overcome evil. It is a battle fought by a great evil, struggling to crush a small kernel of human kindness. But if what is human in human beings has not been destroyed even now, then evil will never conquer.
It is better to try and fail, then never to try at all.
the car of life only has forward gears and one very clouded rear view mirror wink
Money is power, you never have enough of either so take what you can and enjoy life.
Never spend time with negative types ... Its inviting misery upon you
And finally
Be honest mostly, respectful and treat everyone with the respect you give.
Gecco in the 80's ... Greed is good,

Dave I think that's a misquote from General John Sedgewick in the American civil war. He was the highest ranking death of the war and died at the Battle of spotsylvania court house. His men kept ducking from sporadic individual shots fired by confederate sharpshooters around 900m away.
He told them repeatedly to stop ducking for cover and amongst his last words were 'They couldn't hit an elephant at this distance' before getting shot by one of the sharpshooters.
It is often misquoted as 'they couldn't hit an elephant at this dist....'.

oh yes I will still post, I do get mails from people who support what I say but are too afraid to post in the forums because people who do can get "jumped on" or "judged" but that's bye and bye.
I will still post, but I will take on board some advice and try to do a little more research before I do in future, I will still make mistakes, I will still change my view if someone comes up with a good reason for me to do so, I will still be passionate about some subjects and I will still stand firm on some things I believe no matter what is said.

Surely if they feel that strong they should post?
I think any opinion in a Forum is open to question and a debacle!
Fear to express that opinion is wrong, be yourself!
New blood is welcomed in the Forum, a fresh approach, that's in no way being negative to current posters.

would that be where the quote (famous last words) would come from rotflmao
Shorter post this time round:
Quote by Johnny Depp in the film Don Juan DeMarco
There are only four questions of value in life, Don Octavio:
What is sacred?
Of what is the spirit made?
What is worth living for?
And what is worth dying for?
The answer to each is the same. Only love.

Beautiful, and so true:
D H Lawrence
I never saw a wild thing
sorry for itself.
A small bird will drop frozen dead from a bough
without ever having felt sorry for itself.
' actions speak louder than words '
Ogni figlio, figlio mio.
I have searched and searched but am still unable to find any provenance for my favourite quote, so unfortunately I am unable to credit the author (and he/ she does deserve much credit) for these wise and apposite words....

Should that not be "Fuck off you greedy arrogant self serving ignorant Tory cunt s"
I would hate to see them in the singular category mr staggers, and the S on the end means it includes all of them. :giggle:

No, it is correct as it stands ...... there are undoubtedly more than one of them,it would however be inadvisable to use this phrase to a large group of the evil moneygrabbing morally retarded arsewipes .... the advice is free you are more than welcome to ignore it
