Join us in a night of history and savour a unique atmosphere that has been centuries in the making. A feast of fine food, wine, mead and entertainment awaits……….
It is the 14th century and you are invited to the Banquet Feast of the local Baron. Before the banquet commences the doors are opened to the Drinking Chamber where wine, ale and mead are purchased. You will be greeted like a friend but be sure to behave or the Abbot will deal with you!
The arrival of the Monastic Order signals the commencement of the evening and lit only by candlelight you will be welcomed into the Baronial Hall for the evening's entertainment to commence.
Armed only with a dagger and a bib you will be served four courses of delicious food. Throughout the feasting banquet maids will fill your goblets with mead and wine while entertaining you with song, dance and sketches.
After you have been well fed and watered the Ladies take to the stage and present a show which includes song, dance and comedy. At the end of the banquet the Court Chamberlain will guide you back into the Drinking Chamber.
The Baron's Broth
A hearty broth of vegetables, pearl barley and herbs served with stoneground bread.
The Royal Rib
Marinated rib of swine with sage, cider and honey.
My Lorde's Chicken
Quarter roasted fowl, rolled in mace, tarragon and crushed black pepper in a sharp lemon and mead sauce.
The Court Crumble
Apple and apricot crumble with elderflower cream.
Vegetarian options available.
Ok………. I’ve warned them that the numbers may change but I’ve provisionally booked us in on Saturday 5th March as a group of 40. If we make the magic number the cost will be per person.
The tricky bit is that like all these places they expect to be paid up front. I will shortly need to send a deposit of per person and they expect the balance to be paid four weeks before the event, ie by 4th February. It’s a good job I know and trust most of you or else things might not have gone much further than that part of the conversation. I’m a bit too preoccupied with tomorrow's munch to worry about it at the moment so I’ll think about that bit later.
A few people have mentioned dress. They’re quite happy with casual dress or period costume so the choice is yours. She also assured me that even if you looked like one of the serving wenches you wouldn’t get dragged round the back to help with the washing up. Damn shame really, we might have got something knocked off the bill.
I’m gonna let the other thread wither and die so if you are interested in coming along then please reply in this one.
