my poor old boiler has given up tonight.....on the coldest night of the year so far....when there's a risk of it all freezing....only a year since i had it fixed last.....i'm so cross! why have all the things that are going to cost me money happened all together. why has it happened now, when, because of circumstances, i'll have to take time off work and wait for repair men....i didn't come on here for a moan, but my discomfort is heightened as its so cold over in this part of the room. mad sad cheer me up someone. x
If your avatar is anything to go on....
Our heating is on full pelt at the mo.....Wanna pop over and warm up confused:
wink
*hugs* poor you.
Last winter we ran out of oil. (no gas in the village) As a result, our boiler packed up. The kids were so cold they wore fleeces to bed and took hot water bottles.
Wusses. When I were a lad, there was ice inside the windows, that you pulled the net curtains off and they ripped, so you stuck em back to the ice and hoped yer mum didn't notice. Heating??!! We had a parafin heater in the living room if it was that bad. Windows had one pane of glass in, if you were lucky.
Aaaah.. the good old days.
aaaaaarrrrrgggggghhhhhhh
mellow do not talk to me about boilers. i have 2 days in which to fit an entire central heating system! you think you got problems! budge up we'll keep each other warm. seems the best plan all round! ;)

All you need is a waterbed and a laptop.
Then you can lie in warmth and comfort and not have to venture out into the cold to post here. biggrin
Certainly my recommendation. lol
Well, I hit my 1K via laptop, in bed, so I must agree.
Ooooh!! Do I have my first job in my new career already?? :bounce:

I have some friends who still live that way, frost on the inside of the panes winter mornings, no CH, log fires but a draughty old place so unless you're sitting on top of the grate it does no good at all. Go for dinner in thermals and boots, lovely people but...
Sorry to hear that mellow, i think boilers are designed to give up at the slightest feeling of cold weather cos ours always packs up as winter is aproaching sad mad

I always find bed is the better place to be. Even if it is just with a computer... biggrin
So the old boilers packed up eh?
Maybe you need a new one to keep you warm through the winter :P biggrin

All this talk of boilers packing up .....
We don't have central heating  we have one radiator in the kitchen and storage heaters that Morbius won't allow me to use due to the expense sad
Cold .. it's always cold here :(
I fitted my central heating many years ago. Over the years I've had to do routine maintainence, but it works well.
Last year we had double glazing fitted, I am amazed at how well the heat retention is.
Whereas we used to have the heating on all evening, now it's only on for one or two hours.
Plus the sound insulation from outside noise is excelent.
