well house prices are astronomical at the mo if you like the area i would reccomend northampton as it's 20 miles down the road and houses are about 1/3 cheeper (like the budgie) my 4 bed house in a small village 10 miles out from the city centre is going for 350 at the mo so it's a lot i feel sorry for all the first time buyers as there are no houses for them anywhere at the moment, milkton keynes has good wages no unemployment but the houses are the only bad thing !
ok so you got me on 1 thing !
Lets see, whats wrong with Milton Keynes...
Its in the south. Everybody knows the north is better. (North being Yorkshire and up for the sake of this arguement).
You have a warmer temperature on average down south too. (Must be the womens breast size heating things up). Everybody knows cold and wet is good which is often found in abundance in the North. Puts hairs on your chest, it does.
Cement is such a lovely touch to a once beautiful country side. Last time I went I didn't really see many parks, ponds, wildlife or just greenery in general.
Who am I kidding. I don't have a grudge against MK. I like the place. I think it is just the boredom and beer typing this reply.
Lets see:
There are loads of car parks. Right. So many that if the entire UK contingent of back-seat gymnasts had a shag-in, there'd be about per car park.
The drive-bys have to drive so fast that the speed cameras would be useless anyway, they'd just be blurs.
The Grand Union canal. Right. All those bloody narrow boats have f*cked-up a good car park.
The "caravan dwellers". Yeah. Half the car parks (and the best ones) are no longer accessible because they've been closed off to stop the scrap merchants camping there.
A really good car park (within walking distance of MK centre and a KFC) has just had the ritual cropping of the bushes...so the best picnic table in the eastern counties is now fully open to the scavenging eyes of the town yokels (campbell park, glebe roundabout)
Good things....I can park at willen lake and walk around the best car parks and parks without being sexually assaulted or mugged ? (is that a good thing ?)....there are so many car parks that the muggers gave up years ago.
Car thieves just get a good thumping when caught.
God, in his wisdom, decided that MK would have LOADS of footpaths that go from one car park to the next (obviously, someone spelt his name backwards and missed out the GERS on the end)
The MK bowl....there are so many people having sex around there in summer that you get frustrated trying to decide who to watch.
And the best thing ?
The scotsman has moved to Norfolk.....so the peace pagoda is open season again without being told to piss off every night.
Please note: Campbell park (glebe roundabout) is a well-established gay cruise site, as is the Stony Stratford bird reserve. Although cam pk is the best dogging in MK in the summer.
I think so anyway.
Who cares about the house prices....I don't live there !!
Yes - but it's better this way, let's not share!!
Just popped in after a couple of days of seeing the New Year in with a bang!
Have to agree about people knocking Milton Keynes pissing you off. Having moved out of Milton Keynes recently there is a lot we miss about it - including the roundabouts! Once you get used to the H & V grid road numbering there is no way you can ever get lost again - and if a road is congested drop down a road and bypass the trouble.
Have to say though - parking in the city centre is SHITE! - the park and ride scheme seems to have been an afterthought every year!
I got your joke Mark - not wasted here! Property prices are bad though - which was a real bonus for us when we moved to rural Leicestershire.....
There is a problem with mugging and car crime but no more than in other areas - despite MK having the youngest average age of any city in the UK
Cement city? That is the one comment that really does piss me off though! MK as a design and layout has done more to stay green and pleasant than any other modern piece of New Town development - Go see Harlow and compare the 2! Every spring the city is a burst of colour because of all the bulbs, and it is the cleanest city I have ever lived in.
Funny how you never see people who have lived there lambasting the place. We all have issues about places, but keep a sense of proportion.
The concrete cows? - Ah yes - the joke about being a concrete city so they had to build concrete cows to show the kids what real ones look like. Oft abused and vandalised they actually do have a completely logical reason for their existence but far be it for me to destroy an urban myth!
We never experienced all the hidden sides to MK - dogging etc. so cannot comment - but as a design idea - the redways are a superb way of getting around the city without the use of 4 wheels!
Sorry to be serious amid all this frivolity but I got all hot and bothered!
