As long as the animals are well looked after I don’t see a problem with it, I can see by reading this thread that some do though and im trying to see your logic? If their being mistreated then fine but that goes for anything not just animals and shouldn’t be tolerated, but as for performing animals go we do this ourselves with pets, I’ll even go as far as saying humans are brought up to perform although some more than others, Then there’s animals in captivity ie safari parks, zoos etc, which if treated well actually gives them life, lots of these animals wouldn’t be alive if it wasn’t for captivity due to other predators in their natural habitat, I’ve also read on here that its cruel transporting animals around and its not natural, WHY? Its not natural for humans to be transported around either but most now own a car or use some form of transport daily, and even with pets onboard, If I was an animal I would rather perform in a circus than be made run round a race track with an idiot on my back hitting me with a whip every ten paces while a crowd cheer on trying to make a quick buck at my expense, I’d also rather perform in a circus than have a bolt though my head then hung up and my throat cut then served up on your dinner plate for Sunday roast, while wearing your nice new leather shoes and jacket. So if you’re a vegetarian I can see it from your point of view but if your not then sorry I can’t.
I don't like circuses, never liked circuses with animals in and clowns scare me :scared: I wouldn't see a circus with performing animals on principle.

I don't like them either, the last time I went to a circus and saw a baby elephant performing ....

but, what is 'free'?
moved from the circus to a zoo?
how the hell do they get hold of these 'wild' animals in the first place? dunno
I'd have wanted to 'set it free' too Jaymar...but it's not like you could open the cage and let it run off back to the wild, or take it home and look after it, is it  lol
I'm off to google and do some research, cos the bee in me bonnet wont shut up wink
 what did you come up with? I know what you mean, it was a bit of a think out loud situation when I said "I would want to set it free". The daft thing is I have quite readily taken the kids to zoos when they were little and those poor animals are caged also.
With the circus', it's more the case of I don't like seeing them made to perform. I had heard sometimes the animals are slightly drugged to enhance their performance is that right?
When I was in Tenerife a few years back we went to Loro Park, at the park there was a massive open aired enclosure with Meercats, they were amazing and I couldn't stop watching them. Their enclosure looked like the wild and I wonder whether they know any different?
Ramble over..
dont agree with performing animals and defo no to the zebras.
Horses and goats well i suppose you could say a horse performs every time it is in a show jumping arena or they do that dressage stuff with them but call it a sport, goats, wtf they are gonna do with goats i have no idea.
Earthy xx
We're really lucky to live very close to two well known animal parks known & trusted for their conservation work.
They have had great success with their captive breeding programme- especially with their wonderful Gorillas. Going to the "zoo" for us is therefore a pretty much guilt free experience.
However, there is no substitute to the feeling of seeing wild animals in their environment. I've seen dolphins perform in Holland, and yes, it was fantastic, but tinged with guilt. Last summer, on several occasions I was lucky enough to swim with a wild dolphin locally. There was no comparison. I was in the water with my best mate mostly ( she's spent many years working in marine rescue) and he was choosing to swim with us, which was the most amazing feeling.
One day, the sea was pretty rough & I was in the water on my own. Again, he chose to come & investigate me, coming close enough for me to touch (no, I didn't). I'd been with him for ages, during which time quite a crowd had gathered to watch. According to Mr W, they were all standing round saying I must be mad- it had started to rain by this time. When he leapt out of the water a few meters in front of me, I felt honoured to have been in his presence. Im waffling, arent I?
I'll leave my final word on circus animals to the Lion.....
When I was a kid, I was taken to an animal circus- Lions, Tigers, Elephants, the lot.
The Lion sniffed around the outside of the (caged) ring, nonchelantly lifted it's hind leg-and pi**ed all over a large section of the front row.
i dont agree with it myself, i remember when we went on holiday one year and the kids wanted to go see the dolphins i wouldnt take them and it is hard as a mother to stand by what you believe in yet not be a kill joy to the kids but in my eyes going to these places is just helping fund them so i wont do that
